I approach teaching by first getting to know my students and creating a rapport. I also focus on reframing certain concepts that may be touchy in a traditional classroom setting. For example, I like to "name norms" with students instead of enforcing rules without having context for their needs. For language, in particular, starting with basic vocabulary and grammar while incorporating the students' interests - i.e. television or video games, sports, etc. - serves to foster connections with a foreign language and culture by tying it into their personal life.
While pursuing my high school diploma, baccalaureate degree, and master's degree, I was able to learn Italian language and culture in the classroom and while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. On top of 10+ years of Italian experience, I also have 10+ years of teaching and tutoring experience.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, I will not currently be able to travel to students or host students. The lessons I offer are strictly via webcam.
I earned my bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in Psychology and Forensic Science, and most recently my MPH in Global Health from New York University.
My teaching experience includes positions at organizations such as Kumon, Say Yes To Education, The Office of Disability Services at Syracuse University, the Science and Technology Entry Program, The Kelberman Center, the Holton-Arms School, and America Reads.
