I most often work with students who struggle to respond to writing prompts from their English classes. Literary analysis and arguments (researched or not researched) are my specialties, though not the only types of academic writing I can help with. My approach is collaborative. I begin by asking questions, listening carefully to the answers, and working with students to create strategies that address the issues.
I am an avid reader and writer who has worked with hundreds of high school and college student writers. I enjoy working with a wide range of students, from brilliant arguers and stylists to those whose writing products are significantly below grade level expectations.
Having worked "in the weeds" with students in their English classrooms for many years, I have developed my understanding of the many issues students face in their writing processes. Through this work and the research I have done (and continue to do on an ongoing basis), I have developed a wide range of approaches to address writing issues.
An area of special interest to me is ADHD, and I enjoy working with students whose writing issues may arise from this neurological condition. I have read widely on ADHD, and try to keep up on what is current in this very active area of research.
I believe in and value good writing as a necessary skill for personal and intellectual discovery and growth, and it is my honor and pleasure to work collaboratively with students to improve their writing processes and products.
