« I am more than glad to recommend my brother, Norman, to prospective employers. Of course, I'm prejudice, since I have known him all my life. However, he has helped me tremendously in maintaining our accreditation with ACCET in Washington D.C. over the past 20 years, which is essential to keeping our program going. The motivation and intelligence he has demonstrated over the years convinces me that he is capable of meeting and excelling at a wide variety of challenges. His written work has demonstrated exceptional initiative, intellect, inventiveness, and resourcefulness. His participation in our program has been invaluable, especially his ability to contribute original insights, to raise significant questions, and to be receptive to others' ideas. Writing-Critical Thinking Tutor coaches International and American high school, college, and university students

Methodology

I am a tutoring professional who has tutored in junior college and university institutions. Both international and American students have used my services to improve and develop their writing abilities.

My goal as a tutor is to develop independent, skillful, and authentic writers who will be able to write without the need of tutors. Consequently, I base my tutoring services upon the assignments from the courses in which students are enrolled, and I adapt my tutoring to each student's natural and personal approach to writing. As a result, I help students develop and expand their own writing "voices." In addition, I help students understand writing concepts like clarity, structure, and audience so that they can independently evaluate, edit, and improve their own writing.

Background

I started tutoring English and ESL as an undergraduate student in a junior college in 2001, secured a position as a writing center director/tutor in a junior college in 2007, and continued tutoring during my graduate studies.

As a result, I have tutored hundreds of students over many hundreds of hours not only in ESL and English classes but also in courses that required academic essays such as history and political science. In addition, I have tutored many students in their personal statements and statements of purpose for admission to universities and graduate programs.

Norm takes great pride in his work, constantly striving to better himself for the benefit of the students. He possesses superior critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities, both necessary for effective teaching. I worked with Norm for several years at the community college level, and I was impressed with his teaching skills and the marvelous rapport he developed with students. He worked tirelessly toward excellence, adding much needed support to a department top-heavy with composition courses and motivated international students. We all still miss him very much.
