5 year middle science/reading/math teacher that is passionate about quality education to all ages

Methodology

I teach with a warm, engaging yet strict and structured style that allows us to maximize our time in the classroom while really diving into the content and trying to get each student engaged in what we are learning, as I believe every student can relate and get excited about the content,

Background

I have been full-time teaching middle school science in low-income communities with many English Language Learners, students with disabilities, and diverse learners. My students were very successful learners based on the universal teaching method that I employed. Before that, I taught in Boston while achieving my Master's degree in Science at Boston University.

Emilie's resume

Emilie Jones
Cover Letter

My name is Emilie Jones, and I am currently finishing my fifth year as a middle school science teacher, Reading Specialist, seventh-grade team leader, and science curriculum specialist for the seventh-grade team, special education department, and our new English Language Learner program at Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, one of the largest charter school networks in Los Angeles. I joined Teach for America in 2015 and began my teaching career at a turnaround, failing charter school in Lynn, Massachusetts with a student population of 100% qualifying for free or reduced lunch and 100% Black or Latino/a. My school in south Los Angeles had a very similar population, but much more funding and resources, allowing us to have a much richer and hands-on experience in science. The difference between just that is eye-opening and life-changing.

I have gained a lot of experience working with students that have IEPs and special accommodations in the classroom and have overcame a lot of challenges making curriculum, technology, and resources available to all kinds of learners. Because of the constant, adapting support I saw from my current charter school network to increase the growth of our most vulnerable learners, I understand firsthand being in the classroom how important school management and government funding can impact not just an individual student, but an entire culture of a school in terms of academic growth and attitudes around learning. I have a strong passion and belief that all students are capable of learning in the right environment with the right resources, and have felt personally responsible in my teaching career that my students have access to what they need to learn best, including proper technology and online curriculum, rich-texts, hands-on science experiments, and accommodated work for our RSP team. At our schools we truly believe that a college-ready rigorous curriculum will push students that enter our school as sixth graders below reading-level onto a college track that will give the same educational opportunities regardless of zip code or community background.

I am looking forward to a job position that employs my previous research skills and strong writing skills from my Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s degree in Education with my developed work ethic and problem-solving abilities to truly become an asset to my new company, Over the last five years, I have worked in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that has been focused around our student’s academic growth. As I step away from the classroom this year, I have realized my deep passion for achieving real results due to hard work and teamwork. I think this job would be a perfect transition out of the classroom and into a workplace where I can employ all of the skills cultivated as a teacher.

To close, I believe my flexibility and adaptability to new work environments, a desire to learn with a quickness, efficient communication skills, first-hand experience working in charter schools in low-income communities and the strong relationships I’ve built with families, my undying work ethic, and positive attitude would allow me to adapt and prosper at this position. Thank you for your consideration.

Best,
Emilie Jones
