Methodology

We begin the first class with a brief - but necessary - presentation. Then we evaluate your knowledge, identifying your strengths and weaknesses. In this first class we will also find out what your main objective is in learning English, and then we will design a programme for the next classes - adapted to your level - so that you acquire the correct language skills.

During the classes we will work in parallel on the four skills needed to master a language and required in all international exams: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, speaking and writing.

Firstly, we will start with an explanation of the grammar rules, with English expressions and key vocabulary cards. To work on reading comprehension and oral expression, we will do readings in English (depending on your level) which will give you valuable contact with the expansive Anglo-Saxon culture. In addition, you will be able to have fun with easy-to-remember stories, and familiarize yourself with the lexicon of this language through direct association with drawings (in the case of those who are beginning to read). Also, by reading aloud, you will improve your pronunciation, which is one of the important features of this language.

Before finishing each class, I propose a dictation of 10 sentences to exercise written expression and, to finish, I will recommend specific exercises according to my record of the student's progress; likewise, I will recommend watching some animated television series and movies to practice listening comprehension.

Watching cartoons in English is an excellent way to become familiar with the vocabulary that you will associate directly with the pictures and at the same time train your ear to the phonetics of English, and to recognise the subtle sound features of the words. The cartoons are designed for children, so the characters speak slowly and clearly, and you will have the opportunity to learn everyday vocabulary and expressions. Also, if you are at a beginner's level, I recommend you watch the films in their original version with subtitles in your language and then, once you have seen them in their original version, I recommend you watch them with English subtitles.
