Let's go

Learn to adapt to your new life first

Starting college symbolizes starting a new era in your life. This means that you'll face many changes that will affect your daily habits and routines.

This is why you need to prepare for college if you want to continue having the same habits you did before or if you wish to build new and improved habits.

Have you heard of the freshman 15? For years, students have been warned about the dreaded freshman 15, which stands for the extra 15 pounds that regularly accompany the first year at college.

If you are someone that wishes to avoid this common phenomenon, then you have to create a university plan that includes going to class, doing homework, studying, having 3 healthy meals, and working out or going to the gym.

Having great physical health should be a priority for every single person in this world, however, not everyone has the discipline to keep up with a daily exercise plan.

Remember that not all workouts have to last for hours, sometimes you just need the discipline of doing some quick exercises for a few minutes every day. All you have to do is find a moment to exercise daily.

However, no one expects you to be perfect and keep up with school, have a social calendar, and follow your fitness routine perfectly. But we do recommend you work on being on top of things and look for help if you'd needed it.

For instance, you do not have the energy to start a workout on your own? Then consider hiring a fitness instructor who can motivate you to do every workout and remind you to hit the gym with them, follow your routine, and do other activities.

You can always find a great instructor who can help you come up with a fitness plan and a workout routine right here on Superprof. They can give you activities, aerobic lessons, a weight plan, training sessions, and more. If you are wondering how much you should exercise as a college student, your instructor can give you that, and much more information.

Keep in mind that going to the gym is not your only option. You can find different workouts online, go to a yoga or aerobic class (or other classes), play different sports, or find a training buddy to do different challenges with you.

See what is available for you in-campus

As a college student, you have to understand that you have an entire institution behind you that wants to see you thriving, healthy, and well. This is why many colleges have created a lot of spaces for students to go do sports and physical activities.

Every school will be different, so you must do your research even before you apply to school, especially if sports and fitness are an important part of your life.

You can go online and check what the university you'll be studying in has to offer. Some schools have training sessions, others have benefits or partnerships with a nearby gym, others have different types of courts for different sports, and so on.

If you do your research well enough, you'll know what to expect once you arrive at your school's campus. Remember that some schools will have great programs for some things and they won't be very good at other things. You have to prioritize while you do your research and decide what is important for you.

If for you, it is a necessity to do your workout many times during the week, then you need space to be able to do it. On the other hand, if all you are looking for is to do some physical activity as a stress reliever and join some classes but you don't have a preference, then you don't have to do as much research on this topic.

You should also consider that there might be many other students who offer lessons and have great tips to teach you how to study during your workout.

How to organize your days

Learning time management is crucial for your students but unfortunately, no class teaches us how to organize ourselves, we have to learn on our own.

However, there are plenty of tools and resources that you can use to organize yourself and guarantee you get your work done and don't miss out on other activities.

We've got a couple of tips to help you reclaim your schedule while you're on your university campus doing student life:

  1. Pay attention to how you are currently using your time: you have to start somewhere! If you want to be mindful of your habits and change something the first step is always to learn and understand how it is you are spending your time now. If not having enough time causes you stress but you figure you're spending 6 hours of your day on your phone, then you can start by changing that.
  2. Create a daily schedule: it might sound silly but organizing your day has tons of benefits. For instance, if you know that by 11 am you need to be in class or doing something on campus, you can organize another activity before (like study time, workout sessions, a few minutes of meditation, having breakfast, and so on).
  3. Learn to prioritize: sometimes we feel like doing it all at once. However, we are bound to fall off the wagon if we don't plan and prioritize. If some of your goals of the year are to get good grades, find work as a student, lose weight, use free time to learn a new skill, and have a social life, you need to learn to prioritize importance and divide your time accordingly.
  4. Assign time limits to tasks: sometimes we tend to take 1 hour doing something that usually takes minutes to do or we use an entire afternoon doing something we can do for two hours. If you start putting limits on any activity you do (like a workout, doing homework, etc) you will be more productive. Do not forget that limits should be flexible. The point is to learn how much it takes you to do a certain task and avoid wasting time in vain.
  5. Eliminate distractions: If you want to stick to your time limits you need to understand what are the things that distract you and eliminate them. For instance, some typical distractors are social media, video games, group chats, TV time, music, and more.

If it is hard for you to fit your fitness classes into your schedule there are plenty of resources you can use to work out in college.

Keep in mind that if you study with the guidance of a private tutor from Superprof, you can ask them to teach you how to organize your schedule and balance your life.

Balance is key!

Taking care of your body and mind is as important as studying, going to your classes, and so on. This is why you need to have a balance so you can fit into your schedule everything you have to do.

For instance, if you spend 15 minutes doing meditation exercises and 30 minutes doing different workouts every day and then you dedicate your energy to class, you'll be able to keep up with everything.

However, if you take care of your health for one week where you spend doing workouts and exercises and then you fall behind on school and you spend the rest of the month catching up, you're not having much balance.

If it is hard for you to maintain a balanced life and you feel like hiring an instructor or a private tutor to support you, you can always look for tutors right here on Superprof.

Superprof has a huge base of tutors capable to help students with all kinds of topics. Learn why should college students work out.
