How Much Are Muay Thai Lessons at US Gyms?
Most gyms sell Muay Thai three ways: single classes, class packs, and monthly memberships. Private lessons sit on top, for students who want one-on-one coaching.
Group Classes and Class Packs
A single group class costs $30 at 3rd Street Boxing Gym in San Francisco. Its 10-class pack brings the price down to $27.50 a class. At Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club, 10 classes cost $299 with no monthly commitment.
Private Lessons and Personal Training
Private Muay Thai lessons cost $60 to $100 an hour at the gyms we checked. At Legion Muay Thai on Staten Island, most coaches charge $35 for 30 minutes or $60 for an hour. The owner and head coach works with advanced athletes and charges $55 or $100.
Buying in bulk lowers the hourly rate. Freestyle Muay Thai in Tampa charges $99 for one private session. Five sessions cost $399, and ten cost $699, which works out to $70 each. In return, you get feedback and a training plan built around your own goals.
Monthly Memberships
A monthly membership is the best value if you train more than a couple of times a week. Adult unlimited plans at the gyms we checked cost $152 to $225 a month. They include the full class schedule, so you can train as often as you like.
Commitment changes the price. Los Angeles Muay Thai charges $175 a month on an annual plan and $225 month-to-month. Kids’ plans there cost $125 to $175 a month.
How Do Muay Thai Gym Prices Compare?
The prices below come straight from each gym’s own website. Where a cell says a price isn’t listed, the gym asks you to call or visit for that rate.

Some gyms cut the extras, too. Muok Boxing in Seattle charges no enrollment fee and no cancellation fee on its $200 monthly plan. Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club gives undergraduates an extra 10% off, for 20% off when they join the same day.
Many Muay Thai gyms let you test the waters first. Los Angeles Muay Thai and Muok Boxing offer a free first class. Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club asks for a $50 refundable deposit for its free trial. Legion Muay Thai sells three classes for $29.95, and you keep the gloves.
What Affects the Cost of Muay Thai Classes?
Several factors push your monthly bill up or down. Ask about each one before you sign a contract.
- Commitment: Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club charges $152 to $169 a month on a 6-month plan, but $179 to $199 month-to-month.
- Class format: group classes cost far less per hour than private lessons with a coach.
- Coach experience: at Legion Muay Thai, an hour with the owner costs $100, while other coaches charge $60.
- Student age: kids’ memberships at Los Angeles Muay Thai start at $125 a month, versus $175 for adults.
- Extra programs: all-access plans that add jiu-jitsu or other classes cost more, up to $250 a month in Los Angeles.
- Fees and discounts: ask about registration fees and student discounts before you sign up.
How Much Does Muay Thai Gear Cost?
Many gyms lend gloves and hand wraps for your first class. Muok Boxing, for example, loans both to first-timers. Once you train regularly, you’ll want your own set.
- Hand wraps: $14 for Fairtex HW2 wraps, in 120- or 180-inch lengths
- Gloves: $83.99 for Everlast’s Titan Muay Thai Glove on sale, or $139 for Fairtex’s BGV1
- Shin guards: $39.95 for Fairtex’s slip-on SPE1 pads, or $105 for its SP5 competition guards
At those prices, a starter set of wraps, gloves, and basic shin pads comes to about $138.
Competitors pay a little more. USA Muaythai, the sport’s national governing body, charges athletes $30 a year. That membership lets you enter its tournaments and sanctioned events.
How to Choose a Muay Thai Gym
Start with a shortlist of Muay Thai gyms near you. Then narrow it down with these checks.
- Look for coaches with solid Muay Thai training and competition experience.
- Visit in person to check that the training space is clean, safe, and well kept.
- Ask for a free trial class or a new-student offer.
- Favor smaller classes, where the coach has more time for each student.
- Confirm whether gloves and wraps are included or sold separately.
Questions to Ask Muay Thai Instructors
A short chat with the coach can save you money and frustration. Ask these questions before you pay.
- What is your Muay Thai training and competition background?
- How long have you been teaching Muay Thai?
- How many students are usually in a class?
- Do you run beginner or fundamentals classes?
- What safety rules do you follow during sparring?
- Are there costs beyond the class fee, such as gear or registration?
- Do you offer family, sibling, or student discounts?
- Do your coaches and students compete?
What Is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is Thailand’s national sport, a full-contact martial art. It’s known as “the art of eight limbs,” because fighters strike with their fists, elbows, knees, and shins. In 2021, the International Olympic Committee granted full recognition to IFMA, the sport’s world governing body.
The advantages of taking Muay Thai are numerous. Students who participate will see improvements in their overall health as their conditioning, strength, agility, balance, and speed will increase.
Troy Logan, Muay Thai trainer and instructor at Georgia Tech’s Campus Recreation Complex
You don’t need any experience to start. Many US gyms run fundamentals classes for complete beginners. At Georgia Tech, Muay Thai kickboxing was the second most popular instructional class at the campus rec center in 2018.
