College students oftentimes feel overwhelmed by the number of things they need to keep track of. For example, they have to go to class, do homework, study, do projects, make new friends, have a social life, participate in extracurriculars, and on top of everything, they need to work out.

The bad part is that most people tend to organize their life like that list and they put exercise at the end of the list, and that's wrong. Fitness and exercise should always be at the top of our to-do lists because it is the foundation for everything else.

For instance, if you do not do your daily workouts you'll end up the semester feeling exhausted and in pain. Workouts can give your body the energy and strength it needs to be able to simply move. On the other hand, exercise can also make your brain sharper and studying can be easier.

There are plenty of benefits to gain from exercising. The only problem is that people tend to put limitations and barriers because there is no education on the topic. Continue reading and learn about some resources you can use for training as a college student.

Let's go

We know you're on a budget

The first thing is first. Students who choose not to work out usually don't mind the workout but they're on a budget and they can't afford a gym membership or to purchase adequate workout gear (like shoes, athleisure, yoga mats, weights, etc).

The boom of the health and fitness industry has changed the way we stay healthy. In our capitalist society, everything has a price and time is money. This is why it is best to allocate some of your money to buy things that will keep you healthy. However, before you start spending your money, learn how much a college student should work out.

Keep in mind that being on a budget does not mean you can't have access to training sessions, gym memberships, or other workout resources. It just means you need to be smart about your money and learn to prioritize like a professional.

Physical activity is about moving your body to improve the health of your body. This movement can be cardio, weight lifting, any sport, resistance training, and more. So, if you think about it, moving your body should be for free because you can do it whenever and however. That's why being on a budget shouldn't keep you from staying active.

Exercise is about building strength, gaining vitality, education, nutrition, and having fun! If your workouts do not make you happy, then it doesn't matter how much money you're spending. At the end of the day, the only money well spent is the money we use to make ourselves happy.

If you're paying for a gym membership but going every day to the gym to do some resistance training or to work on your muscle strength is making you miserable, then you're just wasting money because you'll eventually end up quitting.

So, if you're on a budget, spending your money wisely sometimes translates to not spending any money at all. However, there are plenty of free resources you can find and use to do some home workouts.

For example, you can look at videos online, find a free app that includes nutrition tips, make a deal with a professional trainer, and the list can go on and on.

You can look for licensed professional trainers right here on Superprof and see if you can negotiate the best deal that will benefit you and them.

Find in-campus activities

One of the best resources available to you as a college student is your college campus, and as much as this can sound absurd, hear us out! Working out as a college student shouldn't be a complicated task, and if you don't believe us, find out in our article "Is working out hard in college?"

Your campus probably has plenty of green spaces that people use to enjoy a nice day out. However, we bet you've seen that one "crazy" student running at 7 am.

The running student realized the potential of being on a big campus and is taking advantage of it, and so can you. You can ask a friend to start training with you and build a support system for each other.

Other outdoor workouts you can do around campus are yoga, pilates, cycling, and more. It is all about moving your body and staying healthy before you need medical attention because you don't move your body.

So all you need to do is find something you like to do and start practicing it every day. Remember that if you don't enjoy it you won't do it. If you've been practicing weight lifting and your muscles are bored, you can always switch of activity and do other exercises instead.

Having fun while you exercise is important because that way workouts don't become something you feel obligated to do, but it is something you're looking forward to.

If you feel like you do not have the discipline to get up and go do your daily workout on your own, you can always consider hiring a private tutor to help you with your exercises right here on Superprof.

Hire a fellow student as a private trainer

Your physical health is important and taking care of it is simple but it takes time and discipline. If you feel like you're the kind of person who needs help and motivation, you can always find online tools and videos, any school program, or even consider hiring a fellow student to help you with your training.

If you go to our Superprof homepage you'll see tutors from all over the world offering tutoring lessons for any kind of topic. You can input your location and desired topic and see what coaches or trainers are close to you.

You can also look for a coach who is an expert in strengthening muscles, lower back pain, chest strength, cardio, stretching, and more. We bet there are plenty of other students who have a passion for fitness and offer their free time to teach physical exercises and workouts.

The important thing is that you move your body and you do not spend all your time and your college life sitting in front of the computer either doing homework, studying, or binging a Netflix show. Learn how to study during your workout.

Keep in mind that your health depends on the amount of movement you provide to your body. So make sure this is not an area of your life that you are neglecting.

Go online to find more resources

Now, if you don't feel like having a workout buddy or hiring a personal coach, you can always go online and find plenty of tools and resources to guide you through your exercises and routines.

You can go on Superprof and look for coaches that offer their lessons online. Since the pandemic, many people had to reinvent their businesses and the fitness industry was not an exception.

Many fitness coaches and influencers started offering their lessons online and using platforms like Superprof. Although we are now celebrating the end of the mandatory mask mandate, we can tell that some things will remain the same.

To follow online classes take a look at the following tips:

  • Make sure you hire someone reliable
  • Have all the necessary gear at home
  • Have a good internet connection
  • Turn on your camera and allow your coach to see and correct any movement or exercise you might be doing wrong
  • Make sure you have space at home to do your classes.

If you're still not convinced you should learn why college students should work out and end your skepticism once in for all. Remember that you do not need to become a professional fitness coach yourself, but you do need some physical activity to keep you sharp and healthy.

During your first months in college, you should strive to set a schedule and build new habits, because if you do not start right away, you will never start in later years.
