A group yoga class costs about $15 to $30 as a drop-in at the US studios we checked. Hot yoga runs a little higher, at about $30 to $35. An unlimited month costs $98 to $199, and a private hour starts around $75.

The right choice depends on how often you practice. This guide compares real studio price lists, from donation-based drop-ins to private sessions and online plans. It also explains what a teacher’s credentials mean and what research says about the benefits.

What Is the Average Cost of a Yoga Class?

The average cost of a yoga class sits between $15 and $30 for a single drop-in. Black Swan Yoga in Texas suggests a $15 donation, while Chi Yoga Shack in Chicago charges $30. Heated classes cost more, with drop-ins of about $30 to $35.

Most classes last 60 to 75 minutes. CorePower Yoga’s main classes run 60 minutes, and Golden Light Yoga in Needham, Massachusetts, schedules 75-minute sessions. Classic Bikram hot yoga classes run up to 90 minutes.

A quick benchmark

At the studios we checked, a group drop-in class cost $30 or less. If a studio charges more for an unheated class, ask what the extra covers.

Several studios let you choose your own price. Portland Yoga Project in Maine runs a sliding scale with three tiers. It asks students to “pick what you can afford, no questions asked.”

Drop-In Classes vs. Class Packs vs. Memberships

You can pay for yoga three main ways, and each suits a different schedule. The more often you go, the less each class costs.

Drop-In Classes

A drop-in class is the simplest option, with no commitment. It suits beginners who want to test a studio, a style, or a teacher. It’s also the most expensive way to practice regularly.

Class Packs

Class packs lower the price of each visit. At Chi Yoga Shack, a 10-class pack costs $265, or $26.50 a class instead of $30. Golden Light Yoga sells a session of six classes for $120.

Packs usually expire, so check the date before you buy. Chi Yoga Shack’s packs last six months, while Bikram Yoga Rockville’s expire after three.

Unlimited Memberships

An unlimited membership pays off if you practice two or three times a week. Chi Yoga Shack charges $175 a month on a 12-month plan, or $195 on a three-month plan. At three classes a week, the 12-month plan works out to about $13.50 a class.

Many studios also sell smaller plans. Chi Yoga Shack offers four classes a month from $75, and Portland Yoga Project has a mini membership from $62. Pick the plan that matches how often you really go.

Try before you commit

Most studios offer a low-cost trial. CorePower Yoga gives new students a free week, and Portland Yoga Project offers 30 days for $30. CorePower also takes 20% off for students, teachers, military members, and seniors 55 and over.

What Are Private Yoga Class Rates?

A private session costs more than a group class, but every minute is built around you. Golden Light Yoga charges $75 an hour for a private class. At Portland Yoga Project, a 60-minute private session costs $150 for up to three people.

Sharing a session brings the price down. Three friends at Portland Yoga Project pay $50 each. The studio also discounts multiple bookings.

Private lessons suit people with specific goals, like recovering from an injury or building confidence before a group class. Some teachers also travel to your home or workplace. Portland Yoga Project prices off-site sessions according to the details, so ask for a quote.

What Do Online Yoga Subscriptions Cost?

Online yoga is usually the cheapest way to practice often. CorePower Yoga lists its At Home membership at $49 a month. When we checked, a promo code cut that to $19.99 a month.

You can also pay per class. CorePower sells a single live online class for $18, or five for $75. Black Swan Yoga’s streaming service, BSY.tv, costs $100 a year.

The trade-off is feedback, since no teacher can adjust your posture in person. Many students mix online sessions with an occasional studio class to check their form.

Where Can You Find Free or Donation-Based Yoga?

Community and donation-based classes make yoga affordable for almost any budget. Black Swan Yoga, which runs studios across Texas, suggests a $15 donation per drop-in. There’s no minimum, so you can give what you can afford.

Regulars can switch to an unlimited membership for $98 a month. The studio’s FAQ sums up the idea: “We want to make yoga accessible and affordable.”

Yoga has the potential to benefit anyone who practices, but the way it is shared and/or portrayed can impede or enhance its widespread acceptance.

Shannon Roche, President and CEO of Yoga Alliance

Free outdoor classes are another option in many cities. In New York, Bryant Park Yoga ran free classes twice a week from May 27 to Sept. 16, 2026. Students register in advance and bring their own mat and water.

Check your local parks department, library, or community center for similar programs. Seasonal classes like these are a low-risk way to find out whether yoga suits you.

Do Teacher Credentials Affect the Price?

A teacher’s training shapes both the quality of a class and its price. Yoga Alliance registers teachers who complete a 200-hour training at a Registered Yoga School as RYT 200. Teachers with 500 hours of training can register as RYT 500.

The “E” in E-RYT stands for “experienced.” It marks teachers who meet extra teaching-hour requirements on top of their training. Specialist training, like prenatal or trauma-informed yoga, adds further expertise.

That training is a real investment. Yoga Alliance says schools set their own tuition, from about $1,500 to $5,000 or more. Registration adds a $50 application fee and $65 in yearly dues.

Ask before you book

Ask a new teacher about their training hours and any specialties. An RYT or E-RYT credential shows they completed a recognized program.

Is Yoga Worth the Cost?

For many people, yes, and research supports several benefits. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) summarizes the evidence. It reports that yoga reduced neck pain intensity and improved range of motion in a 2019 review.

  • Stress: A 2020 review of 672 participants found benefits on perceived stress in all the studies.
  • Balance: 11 of 15 studies in healthy people showed improvement in at least one balance measure.
  • Sleep: Studies of older adults, people with arthritis, and cancer patients reported better sleep.

NCCIH describes yoga as generally safe for healthy people when practiced properly. Injuries can still happen, most often sprains and strains. If you have a health condition, talk with your doctor before your first class.
