GED stands for General Educational Development Test and it’s meant for students that weren’t able to finish High School. Through this exam, individuals are given the opportunity to take a series of tests that indicate whether or not they have a High School level of education. Making this exam a very big deal in terms of how it will benefit one's life and future career down the road, especially if they’re someone that plans on furthering their education.
Nonetheless, there are some requirements that need to be met in order for someone to be eligible to take the exam. The person taking the exam is not allowed to be attending school when taking the test and needs to make sure they never graduated from High School. They also need to be at least eighteen years of age, so if they’re younger they need to meet additional requirements. Once all the requirements have been met then it’s time to study and potentially consider getting a private tutor to ensure you pass the exam on the first try.
The GED exam is known to be a tough test to prepare for and to pass, so you’ll definitely need to dedicate a good amount of time to studying. It consists of four tests which include Social Studies, Science, Mathematical Reasoning, and Reasoning Through Language Arts. Then you are given the option to take all four tests together or you can space them out and take them at your own pace. As you can tell it’s an intense test to prep for but luckily you only need to answer 40-50% of the questions correctly in order to pass it.
If you avoid studying for the test altogether then the test will be hard and only a few people can manage without preparing for it. But as long as you put in the work before and refresh on every subject, it should be fast and easy to do. The Math section of the GED is considered by many to be the hardest part of the exam, so we do suggest you study quite well for the math portion. Other than that the GED test gives you a limited time, so do expect the entire experience to be very time-pressured.
Passing the GED is quite an accomplishment because you’ll receive a High School certificate which then allows you to finally move on with your education and attend college. Making it a great way to start your career path and gain life experience because whether or not you choose to move away to attend school, attending college will give you a sense of belonging. As for the job market, you’ll gain an advantage by having passed the GED as opposed to someone that still hasn’t finished High School.
Earning your GED will also help you increase your potential salary earnings since employees who do not have their GED have less leverage. This is why passing the exam in the first place is a personal achievement that should not go unnoticed. Especially when it’s a great stepping stone that stems from working hard and gaining an educationÂ
If you’re serious about passing the GED exam then it wouldn’t hurt to invest in a tutor that will help you achieve your goals. At the end of the day preparing for this test is already costing you time and money, so taking a step further to ensure it’s worth it is a smart move. There really is no point in just trying to take the exam blindly because the point of it is for you to be able to move on with your life. Although there are no restrictions to the number of times you are able to take the exam, you are still required to follow the waiting period guidelines.
A good GED tutor will most definitely help you build your understanding of basic core concepts in writing, reading, and math. Preparing with good resources along with someone that has the experience will be great for you since it is a time-pressured exam. You want to make sure you are spending your time on the material that is worth studying and staying consistent with each subject. Lastly, don’t hesitate to contact our team at Superprof as we’re always happy to help you find a GED tutor that will help you pass the test on your first try!
