About Viola
I'm Viola, an Applied Mathematics major at the University of California, San Diego. I have experience as a math and reading tutor at the Kumon Institute of Education, and I tutored high school math for 2 years. My goal is to make math feel approachable by breaking down complex concepts into clear, understandable steps. I enjoy working with students who may feel uncertain about math and showing them that with the right guidance, they can definitely succeed. I love math, and love showing others how amazing it is.

I believe that building understanding in math basics from the very beginning is fundamental to math success rather than simply memorizing formulas.
I use step by step explanations, tons of examples, practice problems, and real world examples. I'll encourage students to explain problems back to me to make sure they understand.
Typical lesson plan might look like this:
1. Warm up problems to get the brain working and refresh on previous exercises/lessons.
2. Breakdown of new concepts and mini lesson with LOTS of examples.
3. Work through examples together-- do lots of practice problems
4. Summarize everything, do one difficult problem to see if the student can solve it.
What sets me apart from other tutors is that I understand that every student learns differently. I'll try to adapt based on their needs and levels. I don't just teach how to solve a problem, I'll teach how to apply it to other real life solutions.
I tutor in mostly all math levels- from elementary school to college calculus. Subjects might include algebra, geometry, trig, precalc, and calculus.
