About Chris
I’m Chris Hayward — a BAFTA-nominated screenwriter with over 20 years of experience writing for film and television. My work spans drama, comedy, sketch, and feature film, and has been broadcast and screened internationally. I co-wrote Brian & Charles (2022), which premiered at Sundance and was nominated for a BAFTA. I’ve also written for shows such as Trollied, Cardinal Burns, and Big Train, and I’ve developed original projects with Channel 4, BBC, Sky, ABC, FOX, and CBS. In addition to writing, I’m also an actor, with appearances in many shows including The IT Crowd. This combination of writing and performing has given me a deep insight into how the industry works — both behind and in front of the camera, across UK broadcasters and major US networks. As a tutor, I bring that real-world experience into every session. I’m supportive, down-to-earth, and passionate about helping writers find their voice and tell stories that matter to them. Whether you’re a beginner, a media student, or a working writer slowly going mad with writer's block, I offer tailored, practical support with constructive feedback. Writing can feel overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be lonely. I’m here to help you build confidence, sharpen your skills, and enjoy the creative process.

Whether you’re just starting out and don't know where to begin, stuck halfway through a script, or gearing up for your giant Netflix deal, I can help. We’ll cover everything from: • Turning rough ideas into sellable stories • Creating memorable, three-dimensional characters • Scene and story structure analysis (without the jargon) • Mastering sharp, authentic dialogue • Writing treatments, loglines, pitches, and more • How the screenwriting industry actually works • Getting an agent — and getting noticed.
I bring that real-world insight to every lesson — along with a sense of humour and a supportive, no-pressure approach. Lessons are one-to-one, online, and open to anyone aged 16+ who wants to learn the craft.
