About Graham

I have been teaching piano for over 6 years, and my approach is centered around making each lesson engaging, fun, and focused on the student’s personal goals. For beginners, I start with the basics of note reading, rhythm, and hand coordination. As students become more comfortable, I introduce them to more advanced topics, such as scale patterns, chord progressions, and musical phrasing. I encourage students to explore different genres of music, from classical to jazz, pop, and even contemporary music, so they can develop a broad musical understanding. Additionally, I incorporate ear training into my lessons, helping students improve their listening skills and become more proficient in playing by ear. I also focus on creativity by encouraging students to try improvisation and composition, allowing them to experiment with their own musical ideas. My goal is to foster a positive, motivating environment where students can confidently reach their musical potential.

With a deep passion for teaching and a degree in music education, I offer a holistic approach to piano lessons that emphasizes both musicality and technical proficiency. Over the past 6 years, I’ve worked with students of all ages and skill levels, tailoring my lessons to meet their specific needs. For beginners, I introduce fundamental techniques such as hand coordination, finger exercises, and note reading. I also focus on building a strong sense of rhythm through engaging exercises that make learning fun and accessible. As students progress, I introduce more advanced concepts, including sight-reading, music theory, and advanced techniques such as pedaling and dynamics. My lessons cover a wide range of musical genres, from classical to contemporary styles, giving students the opportunity to explore different forms of expression. I believe in fostering creativity in my students by encouraging them to experiment with improvisation and composition. Additionally, I integrate ear training into every lesson, as I believe that a well-developed musical ear is essential for interpreting music and playing with emotion. I provide students with the tools they need to improve their performance skills and gain confidence, whether they're playing for personal enjoyment or preparing for a recital or exam. My goal is to make learning the piano a fulfilling, joyful experience while ensuring students make steady progress.
