About Orla
Hi there! My name is Orla Conway and my Relaxation-First Method uses sensation exploration & guided relaxation to insure that students learn proper vocal technique without any tension nor discomfort.
I am dedicated to nurturing the differences in each students voice, so as to guide my students to use their instrument effortlessly in a pressure free environment.
My approach prioritizes vocal health so as to maintain the voice for the rest of the singers life and seamlessly navigate between any genre of music.
This also reorients us away from a mindset of "singing well enough" and towards a curiosity mindset of "how can I feel my best while singing?"
We will rebuild our confidence for our singing ability as well as be able to master any style when we understand the surprising malleability of our instrument, and how to use it as a tool.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & PROFESSIONAL WORK
I have been taking voice lessons since age 12, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a Bachelor of Music.
I got my start in professional musical theater at age 12 in Washington D.C.s historical Ford’s Theater in their annual production of A Christmas Carol. I continued performing in professional and local musical theater until graduating high school.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a major in Vocal Performance.
My focuses consisted of song writing, performing, organizing and leading a band, and producing electronic music on the Digital Audio Workstation Ableton Live.
I studied & performed in the genres of Jazz, Blues, Rock, Funk, Celtic, and Electronic music.
After training under Ben Cantil of EDM duo Zebbler Encantee Experience, I released my first Electronica EP titled PYKE in 2014.
I started a Celtic Music band and we played together for 2 years. We toured through D.C. in the winter of 2014.
I met some incredible musicians my senior year at Berklee and we formed my original band, ORLA. We played all through the Boston venue circuit for two years as well as in NYC at Silvana and Mercury Lounge on two separate occasions.
I am still writing, recording, producing, and performing original ambient electronic music.
I have performed my originals live as ORLA at events such as the Nü Androids New Years Eve Bash 2022/23 in Washington DC and FireFly Arts Collective Burn in Vermont Summer 2023.
My original music can be found on all music streaming and purchasing platforms. My most recent EP called Transformation was released May 2019.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I first began teaching voice lessons when I was 19 to my friends and neighbors for free around my neighborhood.
I realized right away that the connection and deep feeling of community that come from sharing a skill and helping others grow are absolutely transformative!
I began my own Vocal Coaching business in 2016.
Within my business I have discovered the key to helping students match pitch, master vocal runs, eliminate breathiness from their singing style, belt healthily, and beat stage fright.
For me, any moment spent teaching, making, and experiencing music is a gift that I cherish.
Every student I have ever had has become a dear friend to me. I view the time we spend together as musicians, artists, and people one of the most fulfilling experiences available within our community!

Together we will eliminate tension, strain and pain from the singing experience. The comfort and ease gained through Relaxation-First singing is key to healthily mastering these core skills which will be the main focus of our first 4-8 lessons:
* Breath Control & Building Stability in the Voice
* Singing on Pitch (correcting “tone deaf” singing)
* Understanding and Mastering Rhythm
* Expanding the Vocal Range (singing higher & lower notes)
* Projecting and Belting
* Singing and Understanding Harmonies
* Stage fright
* Mastering the Formula for Any Audition
* Confident Performance Technique
Applying my Relaxation-First methodology to these professional foundations of strong vocal technique make it easy and natural for students to find their voice and transition out of stage fright so that they can feel confident on any stage be it that of a karaoke bar, or local and professional musical theater productions; from open mic nights to performing with their very own band.
These lessons are not only vocal coaching sessions, but complete performance-ready-workshops.
Once we have mastered the students' preliminary vocal technique goals and conquered some of their favorite songs, I offer a variety of relevant subjects to help students expand their creative horizons.
Here are some of our available bonus areas of study:
* Song Writing
* Home Recording (with recommendations for affordable beginners gear such as microphones)
* How to Use a Microphone During a Live Performance
* How to Sing & Use a Microphone in a Recording Studio
* Beginner Level Music Production Using Electronic Software such as Garage Band, Ableton, Logic, or even SoundTrap (a free, online music production software).
* Beginner Level Piano Playing
* Beginner and Intermediate Level Sight Reading
* Understanding Music Theory from the Singer's Perspective (Using Solfeggio)
* Developing Content for YouTube and Social Media
* Forming a Band of Live Musicians to Play Originals and Cover Songs
* Writing Lead Sheets for the Band to Easily Communicate Musical Ideas, Simplifying the Rehearsal Process
All of these core skills and bonus areas of study go from completely mystifying and intimidating, to comfortable and natural when approached with the wholistic, positive reenforcement based, Relaxation-First Method.
We embrace the notion that singing is not pass/fail. It's a gradual and open minded exploration of all the amazing things our vocal instrument can do.
Please feel free to message me with any questions.
It’s my pleasure to make this process as seamless and comfortable for you as possible.

Perfect! I've taken a few lessons with Orla and want to say she is a fantastic teacher. She works with me on my goals and helps point me in the direction I want to go while focusing on protecting my voice. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in becoming a better singer.
- Orla's response :
Perfect! I’ve absolutely loved working with Orla. Her expertise and wealth of knowledge shine through in every lesson, and her patience and flexibility make the learning process so enjoyable. I used to struggle with throat pain after singing, but thanks to her techniques, that’s no longer an issue.
Her focus on breath control has been a game changer - it’s improved not only my singing but also my overall confidence. She has a wonderful way of keeping the classes fun while still pushing me to grow. I also appreciate how much she welcomes questions; she never makes me feel rushed or hesitant to ask.
I truly feel like I’m becoming a better singer because of her guidance, and I can’t recommend her enough!- Orla's response :
Perfect! Orla is incredibly professional and knowledgeable. She is also warm and kind. She provides an inviting and judgment-free space.
- Orla's response :
Perfect! Great personality always makes me laugh when teaching me.
Extremely helpful when I'm stuck figuring something out and never gives up on me when it comes to learning something that feels embarrassing or tough!!!!
I'll recommend her she seems to be very good at what she likes to do a lot!- Orla's response :
Nathalie serves as an inspiration to us all as she reminds us that learning is meant to be fun & lighthearted!
Perfect! Orla is very professional and knows what she's teaching with much depth. I had my first lesson today, we worked on breathing and reframing what my body wants to do to sing vs want my body needs to sing. I was left very impressed. I will definitely be taking more lessons. I felt a difference immediately, especially in my confidence to learn. Which to me, was the most important obstacle to overcome.
- Orla's response :
It was fun getting to know Arthur and we even shared a few a laughs along the way!

Love my lessons with Orla!
10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to practice singing with a seasoned pro who is also fun and laid back.
I heard a change in my voice in the first lesson just from working on breath control.
Orla rocks!I'll admit I was terribly nervous to start voice lessons, I almost canceled my first lesson before I could even start! Truth be told, I didn't think I could handle being heard by another person, let alone a professional.
Working with Orla changed all that for me.
She has been so patient and compassionate, teaching me that I don't need to be perfect to enjoy singing. It's been such a relief to sing with someone who isn't judgemental and who just wants to help folks express themselves through music.
Now that I've overcome some of my initial fears after my first few lessons, I am starting to notice improvement in my tone and range!
I would recommend Orla to anyone looking to try singing because she really is perfect for nervous and anxious beginners.I would like to recommend Orla for Superprof. She is a very good teacher, we start with singing exercises for my voice. Orla then gives me great instruction on parts of my singing and breathing. The lessons are a big help this year. Sincerely Dan
Orla is a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable, caring, attentive & upbeat. My lessons with her are definitely improving my singing ability & I feel a lot more confident. I highly recommend Orla as a voice teacher.
