My name is Roman, I am American, born in Seattle but raised in Madrid, so I am completely bilingual. I teach English classes to adults, with a specialization in English for the workplace. My teaching method is based on the fact that my time, and my student's time, is valuable, so every minute of class is focused on working on things that require the presence of a teacher: oral agility, pronunciation, and conversation. Things that do not require my presence are assigned as homework, and we review them orally in the next class.
Each class hour has the following format:
Grammar & Vocabulary (22 minutes): questions using vocabulary and common grammar that the student must answer using the structure presented in the question.
Translation (7 minutes): we review pronunciation and oral agility using the translation list assigned as homework.
Writing (7 minutes): we review the writing homework.
Listening (7 minutes): oral summary of the listening homework.
Reading (7 minutes): questions about the reading homework.
Review & Homework (10 minutes): a review of the class and assignment of homework for the next class.
As you can see in the class schedule, more than half of the class is dedicated to review and comment on the materials assigned as homework. This requires absolute dedication on the part of the student. You must calculate that each class hour requires 2 to 3 hours of homework, and that is the most important work.
