Biology or Environmental Science Tutor with 7 years teaching experience offering private tutoring (at home, public space, or online) in Richmond/Chesterfield area

Methodology

As a teacher, I try to design and implement engaging lesson plans that utilize varied instruction, inquiry, labs, and problem-based learning scenarios, that are intended to reach a variety of different learning styles and the diverse needs of my students. I also use numerous hands-on activities, demonstrations, and have even created original rap reviews from time to time, in order to capture student interest through music and real-life connections.

Background

I have a been a middle school science and high school biology/environmental science teacher for the past 7 years, and I have taught over 800 students during this time. Four of my classes over the last 2 years have also been sheltered ESL classes, working with students who are around a level 3 on the WIDA language proficiency test. I have worked with my students who were struggling and needed extra assistance to increase understanding of class curriculum in both one-on-one and small group settings during my planning periods and after school tutoring sessions each year, but I am looking to branch out and offer my tutoring expertise on the side, as an additional source of income.
