Group archery classes
Group classes cost $5 to $25 per session. OC Archery in California charges $25 for an hour-long beginner class with rentals included. AJ Archery runs weekly one-hour group lessons for $20 per archer. County parks can cost even less: Oakland County, Michigan, charges $5 a session for its 4-H archery program.
Private archery lessons
Private lessons cost $50 to $70 per hour at the ranges we checked. AJ Archery charges $50 per hour, High Desert Archery in Reno charges $65, and Orlando Archery Academy charges $70 for a first lesson. One-to-one coaching suits beginners who want faster progress and experienced archers who want to fix their form.
Archery camps
Summer camps cost $125 to $240 per week. Skookum Archers in Washington runs a five-day, half-day field archery camp for $125 to $150. Orlando Archery Academy charges $240 for a full-day week for ages 7 to 15.
Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD)
JOAD is USA Archery’s program for archers aged 8 to 20, and clubs set their own fees. Minnehaha Archers in Minnesota charges $78 for an eight-week session, plus club membership. Clover Leaf Archery Club in Pennsylvania charges $125 for a 10-week youth session. JOAD teaches the skills young archers need to compete, often through club tournaments.
What affects the cost of archery classes?
Several factors shape what you pay for archery lessons:
- Class type: group classes cost less per hour than private lessons.
- Class length: most beginner classes last about an hour. Multi-week programs cost more upfront but less per session.
- Coach experience: coaches with higher USA Archery certification levels or a competitive record may charge more.
- Location: public parks and clubs often charge less than private ranges in large cities.
- Equipment: some classes include rentals, while others charge extra. At High Desert Archery, range time costs $18 an hour with your own gear and $28 with theirs.
- Indoor or outdoor range: indoor ranges let you shoot year-round, while outdoor ranges usually offer longer distances.
Many ranges sell multi-visit cards at a discount. OC Archery, for example, sells five lessons with rentals for $105 instead of $125.
Open range time and club memberships
Practice between classes is how your skills stick. Ranges charge about $5 to $18 per visit or hour if you bring your own equipment. If you shoot often, an annual club membership usually works out cheaper.
