The Rubik cube was invented in 1974 by a Hungarian architect, sculptor, and professor of architecture called Erno Rubik. It is a cube that has a different color on each of its six faces. Each side or face has nine stickers and the colors that are commonly used are yellow, white, blue, red, orange, and green.

The model was that white is opposite yellow, blue is opposite green, and orange is opposite red, and the red, white, and blue are arranged in that order in a clockwise arrangement.

To solve this puzzle you need to have each of the faces of the cube in one color at the end. Similar puzzles have now been produced with various numbers of sides, dimensions, and stickers, however, all of them don't belong to Rubik.

In 2000 all the existing patents for the cube expired and many international companies, mainly Chinese, took advantage of this and started mass producing the cube.

Over time, these companies started to expand the concept of the cube and use the idea of the puzzle to solve other geometrical figures like the megaminx and the pyraminx.

In this article, you'll learn about all the benefits of learning to solve and understand the cube. Keep in mind that even though the cube is categorized as a toy, it is still a complex puzzle and there is no shame in wanting to get classes or searching for online tutorials.

If you've been trying to solve the cube for a while and haven't done it yet, you could always find someone to help you solve it.

For instance, there are plenty of Rubik's cube tutors right here on Superprof. You can have quick lessons a few times per week and learn more than one method to solve the puzzle.

What are the benefits of learning the Rubik's cube?

For many, learning how to solve the cube is about solving one of the most complicated puzzles in the world and feeling the sense of achievement that comes with it.

However, many people don't realize that there are many beneficial aspects of attempting and practicing how to solve the cube. Even if people who are solving the cube seem absentminded, they are using many mental and cognitive skills.

Some of the beneficial aspects of mastering the Rubik's cube are:

1. Develops Problem Solving Skills

The cube is a puzzle that has algorithms and mechanisms that aren't easy to solve. The premise of solving the cube is about diving the huge puzzle into tiny little puzzles.

Each move you make while solving the cube is important, does this sound familiar? When solving a problem you need to have attention to detail, and you need the ability to look at a problem from different angles to see where you can start the solution. The same goes for the Rubik cube.

2. Keeps The Mind Active

Solving the cube will keep your mind active because it will wake your awareness of different patterns and it will help you develop your cognitive and analytical side. Even if it seems like solving the cube is simple, while you are solving it you are stimulating your brain in many different ways.

Experts will argue that the synchronized movement of the 9 sides of the cube helps in developing visual and spatial intelligence capabilities.

3. Boosts The Power Of Reflexes

The Rubik cube will enhance your eye and hand coordination. This means that while you are shifting and twisting, you are also connecting your vision and the movements of your hands.

4. Increases Speed And Agility

It might seem like the process of solving a Rubik's cube is automatic —it can be once you master it— but it takes time and a lot of practice to become fast and agile while solving it.

If you are doing a cube you'll need to apply certain cognitive abilities that have to do with speed, agility, reflexes, synchronization, and other abilities. The more you use them to find a solution to a problem, the more you'll skills will develop, and all by just playing a game.

Speed and agility are the reason why Rubik's cube became popular again during the 2000s. People of all ages (kids and adults) became obsessed with solving it in seconds and with few moves.

5. Enhances your observation

Besides making your reflexes sharper, the moves required to solve the cube will make both kids and adults enhance their observational skills. Being observant is important in day-to-day tasks, even if it doesn't seem like it!

Having good observation is crucial because it helps build a better awareness of the world and the things around us. Combining speed (solving the cube in a matter of seconds) and good observational skills will allow any child and all children to improve their studying abilities.

6. Improves Concentration And Configuration

Having better concentration is helpful for anyone who ever has to go to school or get a job. If you can concentrate better you'll also improve other skills like memory and focus.

Being able to focus easily will make children's lives easier in school and later during their professional lives. It will allow them to get through classes without getting distracted and it helps to build their patience.

7. Helps Productive And Keeps Boredom At Bay

Many of the mental skills developed while solving a cube are incredibly useful for every aspect of life. They are useful for high school, college, Ph.D. students, professionals, and workers from all fields.

Hire a private tutor to learn the Rubik's cube

If you are interested in knowing what are the benefits for you (or a child) of learning about the cube, or how it can improve your memory, brain functions, and your life overall even when it's just a game, then you should get some classes or a private tutor.

A tutor can teach you the theory, history, moves, and algorithms, and you can also learn about the different types of cubes that are available in the market.

To find a private tutor in your area that has experience teaching a child or an adult, you can go on Superprof.

The platform of Superprof is designed for students and learners to find tutors for all kinds of classes, subjects, and more. Tutors on our system have different levels of experience, backgrounds, methodologies, and rates. All you have to do is find the tutor that suits your needs the best.

For instance, if you are looking for online tutoring you don't need to search for tutors in your area. Online tutors don't have to be in your same city but we do recommend they are in your same time zone. This will make things easier to coordinate.

If you are thinking that hiring a private tutor for a Rubik cube is silly, you should think again. Cubing and specially speedcubing are highly popular and highly competitive. People spend months and years perfecting their knowledge of the cube because it is no longer considered a simple game.

Benefits of learning with a private tutor

Private tutoring can be beneficial because if you are learning about the Rubik's cube you can simultaneously learn about its history and begins because your tutor can combine practical lessons with theoretical lessons.

A private tutor is trained to help the child achieve things at their own pace by making them see and use their strengths and abilities. Tutors can understand how their student's brain learns and they design lessons from there.

For instance, if you are someone who learns by watching but you go to a course where they make you do everything by memory, then you'll never learn.

However, a tutor will know that you learn visually and they'll know that if you want to solve hundreds of cubes you have to watch them do it first.

Private tutoring has the one-on-one modality that allows students to progress at their own pace without feeling the pressure of falling behind or the boredom of being ahead.

During a private lesson, the entire time is dedicated to one single student, which allows for better and faster progress. In a normal classroom or course, students have to be patient and wait for other students to ask their questions or get through their obstacles. However, the beauty of private tutoring is that students don't have to wait around for that.

Besides, online tutoring can be done online or in person, which allows the student to choose a modality that best suits their reality. It also allows them to choose methodologies, for instance, if they love to read they can get a good book of techniques on solving the cube. Or if they love to move around, they can practice on different cubes.
