Vitas, who was already using his name as a pseudonym, began performing in nightclubs. He began his career paying tribute to Michael Jackson but has also performed parodies and his own songs.
His breakthrough came when Vitas and his girlfriend filmed a video clip for "Opera #2", in which Vitas plays an eccentric lone man with fish gills, who lives in a bathtub with fish jars and plays the accordion naked. The clip was first broadcast in December 2000 and generated a lot of interest. Vitas began performing the song with artificial gills, prompting the Russian media to compare him to Ichthyander, a character from the novel The Amphibious Man.

It seems to me that his range bottoms out in lower baritone and then reaches into high soprano when he sings using falsetto.
A song that demonstrates his low singing and falsetto in the same performance is “Os Povos (The People)” from his album “Milton”.
“Ponte de Areia “ from Wayne Shorter’s album Native Dancer demos his ultra high falsetto singing.
“Me Deixa Em Paz” where he sings with Aliade Costa from his album “Clube Da Esquina” starts with his falsetto soaring high above Ms. Costa as the song starts and then uses his baritone as he answers her for the second half of the song.
“O Que Foi Feito Devera (De Vera)” from Elis Regina’s album “The Essential Elis Regina “ gracefully demos nearly his full range from low to high just as the song begins. He employs nearly his entire range during the course of this performance.

her highest note is F#8 when she swims with a dolphin. C#8 on her song called Your Girl, Bb7 on her Emotions performance on MTV VMA 1991.

I’m surprised Geoff Tate (Former lead Singer of the Rock Band Queensryche) is not on the list. His voice usually leaves people in awe. I don’t know how many Octaves he can sing in, but wow. Just listen to: “Take Hold of the Flame” not only can he sing these impossibly high notes on an album, but live as well, which sound just as good as it does (Identical to their album). He does not lip sinc. “The Lady Wore Black” is another jaw dropping song by him showcasing his vocal range. I mean..no one can sing in these Octaves. Also on the Album “Operation Mindcrime”. Will blow you away. This is a “storybook telling style ” to this album. The person speaking? Geoff Tate.
How can the Legendary Steve Perry be left out of the best singers in the world? Have you heard his song “Patiently” done live in Comisky Park? He is the best vocalist I have ever heard. What about the song he does “Lay it down”? Not even Freddie Mercury can sing that type of vocal range. Steve Perry does it with ease. He sounds the same way live as well. The man is a vocal God. Donna Summer? How can you forget this four octave mezzo soprano?? This woman’s range, POWER , tonality, ability to HOLD a note, AND DEPTH like no other. Particularly when we always talk of whistle notes. Which I love and appreciate, but I feel is more possible with the female voice, as opposed to ones depth. One of the greatest superstars of the 70’s to survive the disco backlash.
I know there are others, but you need to check her catalog. Dim All The Lights (that Branigan covered). This song holds the record for the longest held vocal note in a hit single by a female. This was a record by ANYONE until Sheriff’s, When I’m With You was rereleased in ‘89 that went to number one. Also listen to There Goes My Baby (Drifters cover) at a semi loud decibel level. I guarantee you will have to turn down your volume when she hits those POWER notes. Just to name a few. She needs to be added to the list. One final drop mic point. With all the “divas” that were on VH1 specials , she was the ONLY ONE to have a FULL SHOW to HERSELF.
Oh, almost forgot, she still had a great singing voice with Seal for David Foster’s special after being diagnosed with LUNG CANCER. This woman deserves so much praise for not only her phenomenal voice, but her kindness, and humble heart. Most importantly, she deserves to be REMEMBERED.

I think of Barry Gibb being in the Soprano range. :) He and his brothers were truly amazing with such a unique sound. Sarah Brightman has a huge range, but it might not be fair to add opera singers. She played Christine in Phantom of the Opera. Sierra Boggess took my breath away when she played the part of Christine.
