About Henry
Teaching guitar is, at its core, about helping people feel more connected to music, to creativity, and to themselves. My lessons are guided by empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for each student's individuality. I work with players of all ages and skill levels, and I take pride in building lessons that feel both grounded and inspiring. We begin with a focus on technique—clean playing, ergonomic hand movement, rhythm, and coordination—but I quickly bring in creative and expressive elements to make those skills feel purposeful. Whether you're learning your first open chords or exploring modal improvisation, I tie everything to music that feels real and meaningful to you. I often challenge students to do more than just copy songs—I'll ask them to rearrange them, transpose them, or even reharmonize them. These kinds of activities build not only skill, but also confidence and artistic ownership. I also teach how to think like a composer and listener, not just a player. For example, we might analyze a favorite track to understand what makes the guitar part effective, and then try to write something that captures a similar feeling. One of the most meaningful projects I've done involved helping a student arrange a guitar piece as a surprise wedding gift for a friend—it combined technical precision, personal meaning, and emotional delivery in a way that made every lesson feel special. I believe in clear feedback, consistent support, and helping students set goals that excite them. My goal is for you to walk away from each lesson with not just new skills, but a stronger connection to your own voice as a musician.

My philosophy is to make guitar learning accessible and enjoyable while fostering deep musical understanding. We begin with the basics—posture, finger technique, strumming, and chord transitions—always applied through songs and styles you love, from blues and folk to rock and pop.
I integrate practical music theory to explain chord progressions, rhythm, and song structure, so your playing becomes meaningful and musical. Communication is vital; I explain concepts clearly and regularly check in to customize lessons to your pace and preferences.
I use visual aids, backing tracks, and rhythmic exercises to keep lessons engaging and effective. Guitar should be a source of creative joy, not stress. To maintain motivation, I share inspiring stories from both professional guitarists and fellow learners who’ve succeeded through persistence. Along with playing skills, I teach tone shaping, stage preparation, practice routines, music reading, and improvisation. Whether playing for leisure or aiming to perform, I’m here to guide your journey.
