About Thomas J
Besides my formal academic education, I have continuously been self-teaching since age 5 (I am nearly 70 now); I taught as a regular classroom teacher in DC and IL for 10 years in 6 Social Sciences, French, and Spanish; and -- also in DC and IL --25 + years as a per diem substitute teacher, at levels K-12 in all subject areas, including PE.
I have also worked some 40 short (1 day) to mid-term (4 years); and longer-term, (10 years) blue and white and green (agricultural) collar jobs embedded among US working families; and 3 months of the same types of work in Switzerland and Italy in my youth.
My sports are canoeing; dinghy-sail-boating; rowing; hiking; bicycling and weight-training

Ret'd US Public School Teacher with Bach. of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown U.'s SFS; MA in Advanced International Studies from the Johns Hopkins U.'s SAIS; Franco-phone and Africana Studies from U of the District of Columbia, etc.
These are Ox-Bridge style Reading/Discussion Seminars meeting virtually 1-3 times a week for totals of 3 hours a week; for 17 weeks in 3 Trimesters a year; with a Minimum of 10 students per class in any of our 21 Academic Courses; or 3 in any of the 4 basic language levels of our 3 Languages: English, French; Spanish) Minimum Donations of $5 per hour per person to the St. Marcellus House(s) of Hospitality for Homeless Veterans and Others, Payable in Advance ($255 per person per course per trimester). Donations above that are 100% Deductible from US Taxable Income. Students must pre-buy or pre-borrow their own texts (one book a week; or one chapter a week of standard textbooks). Possible Kindle-type e-books may become available on a case by case (ad hoc) basis.
Each Course is 3 Credit Hours. Grades are on a 6 pt scale: A+ = 6; D- = 0.33; F =0; x the credit-hours of a course; or Gradeless Audit.
Not-Yet accredited Degrees in Inter-Cultural and Inter-Disciplinary Studies are available from Servant of God Dorothy Day College:
AA = 72 Credit Hours
BA = 144 Credit Hours
MA = 216 Credit Hours + Dissertation of at least 15,000 words, in English, French or Spanish,
PhD = in Shakespearean Theatre: a special program of 17 Shakespearean plays per trimester starting the 1st year of AA, plus a few ad hoc courses from our standard 20 other academic and/or 12 levels of basic language study.
AA Credits are Good toward BA, etc.
However, we have approached 5 "traditional brick-and-mortar" colleges and Uni's for their offering Credit for any of our courses on their transcripts. In the event any of them do so, their Standard Fees apply, provided they either compensate Dorothy Day College at their standard contractual rates for teachers and profs; or each student pay a per course, per-trimester stipend of $100 to the Dorothy Day College, to compensate its teacher(s).
Maximum number of students enrollable per trimester during this 1st year of the Dorothy Day College: 50; only 4 courses allowed per student per trimester; Any of the 21 Academic Courses we have are offered in any given trimester in the first few years of the College's Life;
except Levels I-IV of EFL; FFL; SFL (English; French; Spanish, each respectively as a Foreign Language [or "brush-up native" language) remain available in all Trimesters, provided at least 3 pupils are enrolled at a given level of basic language study. For the 21 Academic Courses, a minimum of 10 students per trimester per course is required for that course to proceed in that trimester.
