About Hua
Hello, everyone! My name is Kate, and I’m excited to be your English teacher this year. Let me tell you a little about myself. I’ve been teaching English for 21 years, and I absolutely love it because it’s a subject that connects us to stories, ideas, and cultures from all around the world. I have a degree in English Literature from Xi'an Shiyou University, and I’ve always been passionate about reading and writing. Some of my favorite books are about Charles Dickens, Emily Bronte, and I’d love to hear about yours too! In my class, we’ll work together to improve your skills in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English. Don’t worry about making mistakes – they’re a natural and important part of learning. My goal is to make this class a safe, fun, and supportive space for everyone. A few fun facts about me: I love traveling, cooking, hiking, I speak Mandarin as a native speaker, and I’m always on the lookout for new coffee shops to try. Now, let’s start by introducing yourselves! I’d like each of you to share your name, something you enjoy doing, and one goal you have for learning English. I can’t wait to get to know all of you better! This kind of introduction is warm, encouraging, and sets the tone for a collaborative and engaging classroom environment.

1. Communicative Approach Focuses on real-world language use, encouraging students to speak and write as much as possible. Lessons prioritize practical communication over perfect grammar. Example: Role-playing a conversation at a restaurant to practice ordering food. 2. Interactive and Student-Centered Encourages active participation through discussions, group work, and hands-on activities. The teacher acts as a guide or facilitator rather than just a lecturer. Example: Students brainstorm ideas together and then present as a team. 3. Creative and Engaging Uses games, storytelling, songs, or multimedia to make lessons fun and memorable. Tailors activities to students’ interests to keep them motivated. Example: Writing a class story where each student adds one sentence. 4. Structured Yet Flexible Provides clear lesson plans and objectives while adapting to the class's pace or needs. Balances structured grammar lessons with free-form practice. Example: Adjusting the lesson to spend more time on tricky concepts like verb tenses if students struggle. 5. Emphasis on Feedback and Encouragement Offers constructive feedback to help students improve. Encourages mistakes as part of the learning process, creating a supportive environment. Example: Highlighting a student’s improvement in pronunciation before pointing out minor errors.
