About Agustin

Hello! I'm Agustin #BaristaTin, a passionate barista from Peru with over 8 years of experience owning a specialty coffee shop in Colombia. My journey in the coffee world has been about more than just making great coffee—I've had the privilege of training numerous beginners in Colombia, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to become successful baristas in the specialty coffee industry. Many of my students have gone on to work as skilled baristas in various countries around the world.

As an internationally certified Barista Professional by the *SCA, I've dedicated my career to sharing the secrets of exceptional coffee. I have successfully guided entrepreneurs in opening their own specialty coffee shops, drawing from my extensive experience as both a café owner and a barista.

In addition, I've worked with owners of traditional coffee shops, transforming their businesses into specialty coffee destinations. This involved training their staff and advising on the best equipment to elevate their offerings to meet the standards of specialty coffee.

Through my comprehensive Barista courses, I aim to unlock the secrets of specialty coffee for enthusiasts, new baristas, and aspiring entrepreneurs alike, providing a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will enhance your coffee-making journey. The SCA is dedicated to promoting excellence in coffee through research, education, and standards development. It provides training, certifications, and resources to improve the quality of coffee and foster a global community of coffee enthusiasts and professionals. The association is known for setting rigorous standards for specialty coffee, including guidelines for coffee grading, brewing, and cupping, ensuring high-quality coffee production and preparation at every stage of the supply chain.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is hands-on and tailored to each student’s needs, ensuring a unique and engaging learning experience. Lessons are usually scheduled after 5 pm, but I’m flexible to accommodate both our schedules. Please note that a $20 fee will apply for any class cancellations or rescheduling with less than 48 hours' notice. I also offer special discounts for group bookings. My goal is to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable journey into the world of specialty coffee, making the learning process as convenient and effective as possible for you. If you choose the 5 or 10 hour package, I will only charge you $5 per transport, per session. The 5-hour package is flexible, meaning you can choose the topics you wish to learn during those 5 hours. (Usually in 2 sessions)
The free lesson (30 minutes) will be a brief introduction to our courses and an opportunity to answer questions, conducted via video call.
Ask me about the Brewing course, which includes: V60/Dripper, Chemex, Siphon, Aeropress, and French Press.
If you don’t have an espresso machine & grinder, I can bring one to each session for an additional $20 per class.

Preparation of Espresso-Based Drinks

Espresso: Preparation of espresso, double espresso, ristretto, and lungo.

Maintenance

Espresso Machine: How to perform deep cleaning, including cleaning the portafilter and baskets with detergent, purging and cleaning the steam wand, and backflushing the group head with a blind filter and detergent. They will also be taught how to remove and clean the group shower screen to prevent clogs and ensure optimal extraction.
Grinder: How to properly clean by removing the hopper for cleaning, dismantling and brushing the burrs to remove coffee residues, and using grinder cleaning tablets to eliminate oils.

Additional Notes:
- Printed handouts will be provided
- Time will be allocated each day for questions and discussions to enhance understanding and address individual interests.

Conclusion:
By the end of the course, students will have a thorough understanding of specialty coffee, including its origins, processing, brewing techniques, and the preparation of various espresso-based drinks. The provided handouts will serve as valuable resources for future reference.
