About Canissa
I am a K-12 certified ESL teacher who has been in charter and public schools for 10+ years. I have a passion for supporting growth and development of English learners (ELs) through developing bilingual skills and using their language skills to achieve their goals. I am currently a PK-5 ESL teacher in a public school district working with beginner ELs in a dual language setting. I worked with ELs in grades K-12. I have also privately tutored students for the past five years to meet their academic goals. In addition, I have a graduate degree in special education and ESL. The program prepared me to successfully work in an education setting to understand the needs of ELs and students with disabilities. I am dedicated to improving the English fluency of all of my students to make them proficient in English. I also have knowledge of the Spanish language as well.

My lessons are engaging with themes and games to help learn the foundations of the English language. We practice using an immersive approach and assessing your current level of understanding of the English language. I will support you in developing your ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language. We will work at your own pace and develop a plan that meets your goals. Students can receive support with homework assignments, projects, and other class-related activities. We will also build your knowledge of academic language in Spanish and English, which is required to perform well on state testing and other academic standardized tests. I am looking forward to working with you on meeting your goals.
