I have had the privilege of being taught by Ms. Kent for four years. Even during the two years when I was not in her class, she consistently offered her support and guidance, helping me perfect my essay-writing skills.
I remember it all started with my essay in her Global Politics class. At that time, I had very little experience, but her help and creative ideas transformed that essay into one of my best. Beyond her classroom responsibilities, Ms. Kent also assisted me with some of my Internal Assessments (IAs) and especially my Extended Essay, I remember I was one of the few who never had to ask questions on how to write it or other specifics because I already learned all that from Ms.Kent. Even though she was not formally responsible for overseeing my work, it demonstrates her character as a compassionate and dedicated teacher who genuinely cares about her students' success. She is always there to offer support, no matter the circumstances.
Moreover, Ms. Kent has an amazing ability to make her classes engaging and memorable. Through movies, dances, costumes, food, and even role-playing scenarios, she brought subjects like history—one I had struggled with and disliked—to life. Her teaching methods not only made learning enjoyable but also helped me develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the subjects.

Lauren taught my 13 years old girl for study skills as she was struggling with her exams even if she understood the subject. Ms. Kent has taught me for two years and is simply amazing. She has the singular ability to be caring and compassionate and do everything she can to create a safe environment for her students. She understands how to give really structured, personalized feedback and takes advantage of all the tools at her disposal to make you succeed. She’s especially good at explaining concepts which are hard to get in really simple terms, using analogies, pictures, diagrams, you name it.

Ms. Kent has, time and time again, shown pure kindness to every one of her students. She’s incredibly eager to help everyone shine in their own way rather than clumping us all up into a singular identity. She has an innate ability to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of every one of her students, which is a rare, precious ability for a teacher to have. It is truly the little things that have helped me, someone who was fortunate enough to be her student. Not only would she provide a safe and inviting environment in her classrooms, her methods would ensure efficacy and quality learning. I would do anything to be her student again, I doubt I would have even chosen to study law in university had it not been because of her. She has flourished my love for the human sciences, and for that I owe her my many thanks.

I’ve been Lauren Kent’s student for two years, but the impact she’s had on my life still goes to this day. Not only was one of the rare teachers that actually cared about students beyond the classroom, but she worked hard to ensure we were all getting an education (and not just on politics, but real life as well). I can call her a friend now, and I still go to her for help, advice, or even just someone to talk to.
