I will work my way in my lessons according to your problem and will explain it in baby steps with multiple examples until you grasp it. My lessons include high school chemistry level, algebra, statistics, and other sciences. I highly recommend sending your problems prior to the lesson via chat to help you get more out of my sessions. My lessons are only via webcam on weekdays, but I can meet in public areas such as libraries on weekends. No home visits unless nearby to me (sorry for the inconvenience).

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in chemistry and math during high school. Chemistry, with its combination of logical reasoning and experimental discovery, fascinated me, and I was drawn to math for its structured way of solving problems. As I progressed in my studies, I found myself helping classmates, which eventually led to private tutoring. The joy of seeing others understand challenging topics and gain confidence inspired me to continue.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

In chemistry, I teach everything from basic atomic structure and Beyond. I enjoy discussing topics that bridge theory with real-world applications, like chemical reactions in nature or environmental chemistry. In math, algebra is my favourite because it provides a foundation for logical thinking and problem-solving. I enjoy the challenge of finding new ways to explain these topics, although balancing equations can sometimes be tedious for students-and challenging to keep engaging.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my high school chemistry teacher inspired me. She had a way of making difficult concepts accessible and always encouraged curiosity. She showed me that teaching is not just about conveying information; it's about inspiring students to ask questions and think critically. This approach has greatly influenced my tutoring style.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, adaptability, and empathy are essential. Every student learns differently, so it's important to adapt explanations to suit their needs. Patience is vital, especially when students struggle, and empathy helps in understanding their challenges and fears. Also, good communication skills are crucial for making complex ideas more digestible.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I once had a student who struggled with organic chemistry, particularly with understanding molecular structures. We tried various approaches, and one day, I brought in a set of molecular model kits. Being able to physically build molecules made a big difference for them. By the end of the session, they were not only more confident but excited to learn. It was a reminder of how adapting teaching methods to individual needs can make a profound difference.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

In chemistry, students often find the leap from theoretical understanding to practical application challenging, especially in topics like organic reactions. In math, abstract concepts like calculus can be difficult for students who prefer concrete examples. As a tutor, the challenge is to bridge these gaps, finding relatable ways to explain abstract ideas without oversimplifying.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is helping students build confidence in subjects they find challenging. I'm particularly passionate about sparking interest in STEM, especially for students who might not think these fields are for them. I enjoy making chemistry and math approachable and showing students the wide applications of these subjects.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I think it's my commitment to personalized learning. I take time to understand each student's unique needs, strengths, and challenges. My aim is not just to teach but to empower students, helping them develop problem-solving skills they can apply beyond the classroom.
