About Siena
I have been playing cello for eleven years, and have been part of many orchestras and chamber groups (including honors and first chair), as well as annual solo recitals. I am classically trained but also have some experience with folk, modern, and jazz. I am currently studying electrical engineering at the University of Rochester, with a cluster in music performance. I am a part of the UR Symphony Orchestra, and enjoy playing chamber music casually with friends. I have three years of experience private tutoring math and physics for high schoolers, and eight years experience working with children ages 3-13. I love teaching and sharing my passions with younger students.

I integrate learning how to read sheet music into the learning of the instrument. I learned this way myself, and found that it made sheet music much more approachable and fun! As students become more proficient with reading music, I provide many opportunities to practice sight reading too. Additionally, I enjoy sharing duets and some folk music with my more advanced students.
I offer hour long lessons for older students, or 30-45 minutes for younger students. We begin with 5 minute scales and warmup. Then I will listen to what my student has been working on in the past week, and give tailored advice to help improve form, technique, and expression. When the student is ready to move on, we will start a new piece that introduces new techniques. In addition, more advanced students hold onto a study or etude through multiple weeks that will motivate consistent technique practice.
I encourage my students to try to practice daily, even just for 10 minutes. This is so we can move forward each lesson, and to build strong practice habits in newer students.
