I had the honor of working with Merritt for two years. She has a unique ability to identify student needs, devise a plan for addressing those needs, and implementing them successfully. Merritt is an outstanding educator! My son was lucky enough to have her as one of his teachers in both 4th and 5th grade, and what a difference she made in his education! She was consistently able to bring out the best in him in all areas, and reinforce coursework / challenge him when needed. Her style of teaching is engaging and fun, while still covering all course work and then some. She cares deeply about all of her students, encourages independent and deep thinking, and forces her students to rise to every occasion. Of particular note is the fact the 2 school years that my son had the privilege of being one of her students were significantly impacted by the COVID pandemic (2019-20 and 2020-21). Due to the fact that we were forced to go virtual, I had the fortunate experience of witnessing her teaching first hand, and it was nothing short of amazing. She was able to create an online class atmosphere that closely resembled in person learning. Students were engaged and on task, and worked hard to keep up a steady pace of work. After returning to in person school, my son continued to thrive, with no evidence of learning gaps.
Any student who is given the opportunity to work with Merritt will thrive under guidance. She is truly special.
