My preference is to get a feel for where the student is at in their topic of study. I ask probing questions to determine their level of confidence in the subject, and where to begin. Depending on their level of confidence, I will often rehash their content, in order to better explain and reinforce the core concepts, after which I present them with an opportunity to attempt problems or explain concepts on their own. I often consolidate formulas for students, so they have an easier time reviewing mathematics, as well.
I am a college student majoring in Computer Science. I tutor on my campus, as well as at a local high school, in courses revolving around math (primarily algebra), biology, computer science, and the humanities. I also help students write research papers, primarily scientific papers.
