« Sarah and I met in high school roughly six to seven years ago. She always excelled at just about any class she was placed into and we were both skipped ahead in mathematics. The only difference being where I was a year ahead of the curve Sarah was two years ahead of it. It is for this reason that I requested help from her when I had trouble in my calculus course that at the time we were both taking with Ball State University while we were still in high school. To say the least she helped a lot; Sarah was always on time, available by phone for questions, and I still can't recall a time when she was actually wrong. Perhaps it was for this reason that she was a tutor and teacher's assistant in high school. As a teacher Sarah deeply cares about the success of those she helps and even after she no longer was receiving benefits for tutoring she still would help. In addition to this she is a very fast learner whom has an innate desire to find the answer to things she does not know. It would not surprise me at all if a student asked her a question and she learned the topic just so she could answer it. From personal experience if you give her 10 minutes she will learn enough to give you an answer. Personality wise Sarah is one of the most determined people I have ever had the privilege to meet. In fact she is currently taking classes while working full-time since she wants to have a better life. Additionally she is hardworking and trustworthy in both a personal and professional setting. As for why she is trustworthy I have known Sarah for years now and I have yet to see something an individual told her in confidence repeated. Personally I believe that a teacher's success is in it's students and with Sarah in the case of me that couldn't be more true. I am a Computer Science student at Ball State University and a Full-Stack Web Developer for the university. In addition to this I am the founder and owner of Smith Software LLC which builds websites for companies and currently has eight employees. I do not feel that without Sarah's help in mathematics I would have been able to succeed as much as I have today. »

College Student working at Financial Co. tutoring students in k-12 math classes

Methodology

Mathematics has always been a strong suit for me. I've been in advanced math and science courses since i was in primary school. In high school, I was Years above the standard in those subjects. For college, I started out as a mathematics major, but transitioned into engineering.

For working with students, I like to see what they are thinking they struggle with. Then see what they know. Afterwards, we work together to figure out the best method for learning. Some students do well with watching then practice. Others do best when they are explained the process and work through it step by step.

For any student, the best approach is to be calm and positive. It can be stressful to struggle and they need to know that it is okay to struggle.

Background

I have been tutoring different ages since I was in high school. Actually, I was tutoring even before then but as I progressed through the year, I extended my help in more courses. My students have increased scores, higher confidence levels, and a better understanding of the material.
