About Majo

Hello! My name is Maria Jose. Since I was little I had a great interest in music (in particular for the guitar as an instrument) which led me to join extra-curricular activities such as joining the choir or the marching band of my primary school, but it was not until I was 13 years old. that I finally learned to play guitar in a self-taught way.

Since then and in the period of nine years, I took some private lessons in guitar, piano and percussion. In 2015 I entered the Composition Degree at the DIM Music School, which I concluded in 2019.

In 2017 I was part of the group of composers Sinfonía 8, where we self-produced a concert in the Xochipilli Hall of the FaM. In it, my piece Chove En Santiago was premiered for a quintet of breaths.

In 2018 I was selected to participate in the Musicalization for Silent Film workshop at the FaM, under the tutelage of professors José María Serralde and Luis Shepherd. The workshop culminated in the film-concerts of the Arcadia Festival of Rescued Films of the National Film Library. I participated composing music for a fragment (Huelga De Noche) of the rushes and discards rescued and restored from the documentary El Grito (1968) by Leobardo López Arretche. My composition was performed by the Silent Film Improvisation Ensemble in the Julio Bracho room of the CCU and the Xochipilli room of the FaM.

In 2019 I won a live session from the DIM Music School for the recording of my piece Primavera, in an adaptation for string quartet.

In December of the same year, I was hired to manage and administer the Musageta School of Music and Composition, which was just beginning. Managed purchases of material, instrument, hiring, etc. Likewise, I developed study plans and some teaching methodologies for children, adolescents and adults. Unfortunately, the activities were suspended as a result of the health emergency caused by COVID-19.

Currently, I dedicate myself to music teaching, an activity that fulfills and satisfies me enormously. I also participate as an arranger and instrumentalist in the Symphonic Choral Foundation of the State of Mexico.

Hello! My teaching method is global. We can start with your composition classes regardless of the instrument you play or have at home. We will focus on writing for your instrument, but we will also bring a bit of complementary piano, as it is a very visual instrument to begin to land a lot of information about harmony. In addition to your complementary piano classes, we will be seeing theory from history, harmony and writing (preparation of scores by hand and in Sibelius 7.5) analysis, orchestration, among others, to ear training (learning to differentiate intervals, chords, scales, transcribing, etc) for an enriched and comprehensive learning of music, all according to your rhythm, needs and interests. The way I see it, learning music is like learning a new language. It is worth soaking up the history, culture, accents, etc. of said language for a deeper and enriched formation. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them. Without further ado, I remain at your service and I wish you all the success in the world in this new activity. Greetings!
