About Margot
I have been teaching online since January of 2017 and loved the students I have met from all over the world! Before becoming an online teacher, I taught music theory and musicianship classes at Brigham Young University and at the University of Utah as a graduate assistant for four years. I then gained experience working with teenagers while teaching AP music theory at a local high school for two and a half years. I have also worked as a group piano teacher for elementary aged children and taught in my private home studio.
I stay current on the content of the AP Music Theory Test and have coached many students to pass this tough test. I've also helped college students struggling with ear training and sighting singing to pass their classes so they can continue in their passion. I'm also current on music theory pedagogy and can help students find their way through part writing and analysis.

I'm passionate about helping students build their minds through music!
I'm a composer and music tutor living in the United States. I hold a Bachelors, a Masters and a Ph.D. in Music Composition from the University of Utah. My students are Junior High age through college music majors through adult hobbyists who desire to study music in their free time.
I'm familiar with with fixed "do" and movable "do" systems for ear training and understand how to teach students with developing ears as well as students with perfect pitch. For sight-singing, I'm a classically trained vocalist and recognize when faulty vocal technique is getting in the way of the developing ear and know how to fix technique problems. As a composition teacher, I enjoy composing in real time with my students using screen sharing (something you can't really do in live lessons!). When teaching music theory, I have found that a structured mastery process of individual theory topics is what leads to true musical proficiency.
