• Goal: Discuss with students and set the ultimate goals students want to achieve by the end of all tutoring sessions. • Objective: By the end of the session, the student should: a. Understand and apply the key concepts covered (e.g., solving quadratic equations or linear systems). b. Demonstrate problem-solving skills and accuracy in solving algebraic problems. 1. Warm-Up (5-10 minutes) • Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and get the student engaged. • Activity: 1. Present 3-5 quick review problems related to previous lessons (e.g., basic algebra, solving for variables).  Example: Solve for x: 2x+5=15. 2. Encourage the student to explain their thought process as they solve. • Materials Needed: Pre-prepared problems on paper or a whiteboard. 2. Introduction of New Concept (10-15 minutes) • Purpose: Teach the new algebraic concept in a clear, step-by-step manner. • Activity: o Briefly explain the concept using visuals and examples.  Example Topic: Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring.  Steps: 1. Write a quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c=0 2. Show how to factorize it into (x+p)(x+q)=0 3. Solve for x: x=-p and x=-q. o Walk the student through an example: x^2-5x+6=0 Factor: (x-2)(x-3)=0 Solutions: x=2, x=3 • Materials Needed: Whiteboard, markers, graph paper (optional). 3. Guided Practice (15-20 minutes) • Purpose: Reinforce understanding through practice with support. • Activity: 1. Work on 3-4 progressively challenging problems together.  Example Problems: a. x^2+3x-4=0  b. 2x^2-8x+6=0 c. Solve using the quadratic formula for x^2-4x-5=0 2. Ask guiding questions to help the student reason through the solutions. 4. Independent Practice (10-15 minutes) • Purpose: Allow the student to apply the concept independently. • Activity: o Assign 2-3 problems for the student to solve on their own. o Example:  x^2-6x+8=0  3x^2+12x+12=0 o Observe and offer minimal hints as needed. 5. Wrap-Up and Review (5 minutes) • Purpose: Reinforce learning and assess understanding. • Activity: 1. Discuss the key takeaways from the session. 2. Review one or two problems the student struggled with. 3. Encourage the student to explain one solution in their own words. 4. Assign light homework (e.g., practice problems or reviewing class notes). Materials Needed • Whiteboard and markers (or notebook and pen). • Calculator (if needed). • Worksheets with practice problems. • Reference sheet for formulas (e.g., quadratic formula). Homework Suggestions 1. Solve 3-5 problems from their textbook or handouts. 2. Practice factoring, quadratic formula, or graphing equations based on today’s lesson. 3. Review errors from today’s session.
