In 2014 and 2015 he was selected to attend the Conservatorium's newly established Estivo Chamber Music Summer School in Verona, Italy where he toured with his piano trio, St Veaux Trio and studied with renowned pianists such as Acquiles Delle Vigne and Christian Mueller. Pavle is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium with a Bachelor in Piano Performance, which also included study in Piano Pedagogy. He is also a graduate of a 'BodyMinded' movement training course which combines principles of the Alexander Technique with anatomy to enhance coaching and performance through mindful practice and movement (Issued by Sydney Alexander Technique). As a composer, Pavle has written a great variety of works for orchestra and chamber ensembles with recognitions awarded by the Sydney Metropolitan Orchestra and Fine Music 102.5 FM (the Young Composer Award). I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for over 6 years. I hold a piano performance degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Australia, and am currently a Masters music composition student on scholarship at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
My teaching philosophy is based on the following tenets:
1. Learning is fun. As adults, we come to know this, but for children, learning is often framed as something that has to be done. So it is especially important that I frame my lessons so that my young students are driven by their own curiosity and desire.
2. Respect of the student's needs and abilities. I tailor my teaching style and resources to match the needs of my student. Some of my students are studying purely Classical repertoire; others are more film/popular music oriented. My own background is definitely in Classical repertoire, but I am happy to teach anything you are interested in, because I believe we learn best when driven by our own desire.
3. Holistic musical development. Aural skills, theoretical knowledge, strong score reading and memorisation abilities, and spontaneity - the ability to improvise, or invent - all feed into your development as a pianist. Therefore I aim to develop all these skills throughout the lessons (having said that, they are all optional).
4. Psychophysical wholeness. Piano playing is an activity in which the intimate relationship of mental and physical actions is apparent. Good technique is not just a physical matter, and musicality is not purely mental. I use knowledge drawn from my study of the Alexander technique, and experience, to help you integrate your thinking and your moving to create an enjoyable, sustainable practice. I will teach you effective practice methods so that you can build a technique and performing ability free of unnecessary tension and effort.
5. Offer, don't command. I frame my teaching as a series of offers, rather than commands, or 'shoulds'. There are many pathways to success; although I offer suggestions that I believe will help you, the door is left open to unexpected discoveries, or doing things your own way. Learning happens faster when it is partially self-directed.
6. Performance is a special act. Playing for yourself is different to performing. Pretending the audience doesn't exist is not an effective strategy; otherwise, this oft-repeated piece of advice would eliminate stage 'fright', which is nothing more than a misinterpretation of an appropriate level of excitement and adrenaline. Performances exist to move the audience. Including the audience in your idea of performance vitalises you and makes performing one of the supremely exciting acts of life.
I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested in piano lessons :)

Pavle is a very gentle teacher. He teaches us good songs and if we don’t get it right he lets us get another chance. He gives us time to practice and get used to a song and he doesn’t make us do things we aren’t ready for. (Student)
Pavle is not only an accomplished musician he is also a very skilled teacher. He teachers both of my daughters and with them he is patient, encouraging and creative. He meets each child as an individual and treats them as an equal in the learning journey. He inspires them to try harder, to be disciplined and to trust their relationship to the music. (Parent of students)Pavle is an incredibly creative piano teacher, able to tune into the student and really find out what makes them tick, and use that to help them achieve their potential. Highly recommend his style and methods for all ages and levels. With my son he uses a whiteboard to draw out his stories and then play them as a way to connect Sol with the piano. With my daughter he uses a more traditional approach that suits her. Both my kids love his lessons.
Pavle is a brilliant teacher. As an adult learner, he has given me the confidence to tackle pieces that my younger self would never have thought possible. Patient but still exacting, he pays as much attention to overall musicality as to technique. I would happily recommend him to players at all ages and levels.
I highly recommend Pavle Cajic as a piano music teacher for your child/children. Pavle is a gifted freelance music composer, classical pianist performer, and teacher who has facilitated and directed many concerts and is well respected in the community.
Pavle has been teaching our daughter for over two and a half years now, and we are extremely fortunate to have a music teacher of his calibre. He is passionate about his music and teaches it exceptionally well. We have watched our young daughter progress from a complete novice to playing beautiful pieces of music, and more importantly, she thoroughly enjoys her lessons.
Last year she completed her Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) grade two exam with flying colours, thanks to Pavle's dedication in preparing her for the exam. He is flexible in his approach, which has kept our daughter fully engaged and motivated. During the COVID lockdowns he continued with online lessons which worked remarkably well. He kept her highly motivated and created opportunities for her to perform in front of various audiences in-person and online, which has boosted her confidence tremendously.
Pavle also addresses performance techniques along with the technical aspects of piano, providing our daughter with a solid foundation in piano and music that will allow her to pursue education and eventually employment opportunities in music if she chooses to.
Most importantly, she has fun doing it, which is the most important thing.
Recently, Pavle moved from Sydney to San Francisco to pursue a master’s degree in music composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. We have continued with online lessons for our daughter to maintain continuity, and she is benefiting from it; it's working. The goal is that our daughter will qualify to continue her music education at the Sydney Conservatorium. The online lessons work remarkably well even with the time differences and distances involved.
I highly recommend Pavle Cajic as a music teacher for your children. I am grateful to him for everything he has taught our daughter and the joy she has experienced while learning the piano. If you have any questions or would like to discuss our daughter's experiences with Pavle further, he will provide my contact details.View more recommendations
