About Andres

I don't consider myself to be only a teacher, I'm a student as well, as every day is an opportunity to learn something new. I've been studying music for over 5 years in college, in the conservatory, and by myself; being able to grasp different perspectives about how music can be taught and understood. I have a background as a freelance composer and producer, and as an in-person music teacher for people in my location. I'm mainly here to expand my horizons and help grow musicians all over the world.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I remember that the first time I ever felt a genuine connection with music was in my early teenage years; as the thing that got me through rough times and it was always there for me, was music. From that moment, I decided to learn how to play an instrument, as I wanted to be able to connect with people, the same way my favorite artists connected with me. The first instrument that I ever picked up, was the guitar because I've always had a preference for rock music and the guitar for me was the coolest instrument I could possibly learn how to play at that time. I later decided to learn how to sing (or at least properly because I was always singing in the shower), and after years of practice, I managed to make singing my true forte and the thing I love the most as it makes me feel more connected to the music I listen to on a daily basis.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I consider myself an extremely versatile person as I can listen to a wide variety of genres, going easily from Merengue to Metal, and that will entirely depend on that day's mood. But I will never get tired of listening to my favorite artists' music, like Linkin Park, Muse, Panic! at the Disco, Arctic Monkeys, and Evanescence; as they even are my main inspiration when composing my own music.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most riveting course that I can personally teach a student would be the intricacies of Music Theory as a whole, so they can apply it to their instruments to create a far more advanced and complex sound and create their own music in the process. Techniques like Counterpoint, Re-harmonization, Composition for all kinds of instruments, Musical arrangements, and even Music Production; so they can become their own self-sufficient artist.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I consider this a tricky question because I don't personally think that there are instruments easier or harder than other instruments. Every instrument has its own set of skills that you need to learn to truly be able to play them, and even though there are instruments that have a similar way of playing, you still need to learn the specific skills needed for that instrument to really call yourself a master. So in terms of what's easier or harder to play, I would say that that entirely depends on whether you like the instrument or not.
  • What are your keys to success?

    Passion, determination, patience, and constancy.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I've always dreamt to meet Brendon Urie, not only because he's my favorite singer, but also because he looks like an actual kind and friendly person to grab a drink and sing karaoke with. Another person that I would love to meet is Jacob Collier because I'm sure that I would learn so much from him about music, and he explains everything in such a calm and serene way that everyone can understand, even people that don't know much about music. And of course, the person that I would've definitely loved to meet is Chester Bennington, because I would've loved to thank him for the beautiful music he created because that's music that truly saved me.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I believe that the most valuable anecdote I can share regarding music is the time I realized that creating music was the thing that I wanted to dedicate my life to. At that time, I was still learning how to play the guitar and how to sing and it was the beginning of my "being in a band" phase, so I was truly dedicated to creating original songs to play with my band. At the same time, I was studying to become an architect because I really liked to draw and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life, and there was this big pressure on me to pick a career and become a "professional", so I saw the university curriculum for the Architecture career and I said, "sure, why not", and I went for it, but there was a part of me that didn't quite feel as good with this decision. The day that it really hit me, and although it may sound silly, was the time we had a 1-week vacation in between our classes, and I remember that every single one of my colleagues was really excited about this 1-week vacation, as they would have more time to really focus on the design that we were working for our semester and all the architectural things they could learn to implement in their designs; and there I was, thinking how exciting this 1-week will be because I would have more time to focus on my songs and try to compose even more. This moment was a true epiphany for me because it felt like my unconscious mind was trying to speak out loud about what I really wanted to do with my life, so I decided to quit the Architecture career and join a Music University and the Conservatoire to learn about music in a more professional matter.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I discovered my passion for teaching the moment I really looked into myself and realized that I've always been the friend that likes to talk for hours about a subject I truly enjoy and I would explain it to you in a way that we both end up loving every single layer of depth this subject has. So when it comes to music, I'm a nerd that loves to learn everything that I possibly can, and I love to share this knowledge with every single one of my students so they can become, not only a fully-rounded musician but also the kind of musician that they want to be.
