About Haley
I am currently student teaching 4th and 5th grade for my field experience to complete my master's degree in elementary education. Backing up a few years though, I started educating when I became a music instructor after getting my bachelor's degree in music performance and French. I have taught vocal performance and flute lessons to many ages, as well as early music courses to young children. I was a music specialist for early childhood and preschool at Kinderberry Hill. In the past few years I went on to lead an afterschool program for 1st graders, and lead a full day enrichment summer program for grades 1-5. I've been an independent nanny for children ages 3-9 as well for the last two years. So, I have lots of experience with children and their learning!

For any subject, the most important factor is engagement! All children are fully capable, they just need to get involved! I like to involve manipulatives, body movements that relate to the learning, and starting every lesson with a subject-related joke! Additionally, too often students are expected to demonstrate understanding when they are not informed of what it is they are trying to learn! It is through that mistake of adults that children are not sure what they are supposed to be doing for a lesson. By informing a student of what their learning goal is for a lesson, they can focus their attention and also learn to track their own learning. That skill of self assessment is extremely valuable as it helps students to see where they need help, so that they can ask questions! I want to build students' confidence in themselves. Remember, it is okay to be wrong- that's how we learn!
