I teach from the test, using past tests for practice and to discover weaknesses and areas of opportunity. We review basic strategies first and dive into more complex concepts as they arise.
When students get something wrong, I have them retry the question to force them to re-evaluate it. If they get it right on the second try, I have them explain it to me. Not only do I make them explain why the correct answer is correct, I also ask them to figure out why the wrong answer is wrong. If they still didn't get it right, we work through it together. I focus on establishing a comprehensive understanding of what's going on, even if it takes longer.
I encourage students to ask questions about any problem or concept that they are unsure of, so that even if they got something right, they will be more confident the next time.
I teach both reading and grammar to anyone needing to take standardized tests, whether it be the SATs, ACTs, ISEEs, or SSATs.
I love all things English and enjoy helping students to learn to do the same, whether it be through thorough grammar explanations or tailored book recommendations.
I have been a tutor since February 2011 and have taught a wide range of students - from those who need only a few weeks of prep to those who require months or years.
Whatever a student's needs, we can work together to find the right program and scheduling.
I have 16 years experience as a math and science tutor. I have worked with Casey these last 5 years and can say with confidence she is the best English teacher I've come across. I care deeply about the quality of education my students receive. For this reason, I recommend Casey for their English related needs.
Casey is a great find! I have had the opportunity to observe Casey around children. She creates a friendly, open environment, conducive to learning. Casey has a proven record of success with the children she works with. I cant recommend Casey highly enough. You will not be disappointed in the results.
Teaching comes naturally to Casey and she is as dedicated as she is smart (which is a lot!) As a life-long learner herself, she understands how to teach to her students in a way that is most clear and effective. She is also extremely kind and patient, which only adds to her teaching prowess.
