About Casey
I don't teach like everyone else. Growing up, I was diagnosed with a reading comprehension issue and severe ADHD. Few teachers could help me, so I had to teach myself, trial and error, for every subject, including university. Only when I started taking medication for ADHD did learning finally "click." I'm now a scientist, so I'm naturally a problem-solver, which makes me the perfect person for you to hire as your tutor.
My passion for environmental science is unwavering. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I've worked with students in high school, university, and professionals, sharing this passion and inspiring others. My real-world, hands-on experience in environmental science, including sustainable food systems (agricultural science), plant biology, geography, earth science, and oceanography, is a testament to this. When someone has passion in an area, they tend to do it well, and I am no exception.
My approach to teaching is simple-I treat my students the way I would want to be treated. Professionalism is at the core of my interactions, and I thrive under pressure. Many of my clients have described me not just as a tutor, but as a personal cheerleader. When you choose me as your tutor, you can be certain that you will receive the attention, respect, and expertise needed to excel.

As an online tutor, my approach is highly interactive and designed to take full advantage of digital tools to create an engaging learning experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications. I believe in fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of real-world relevance. To do well in science, one must become a detective, historian, and scientist. This approach ensures that the knowledge gained is not just theoretical, but also applicable in real-life scenarios, making the learning experience more meaningful.
Here's how I structure my teaching method and techniques:
I use various online resources, such as video calls, digital whiteboards, screen sharing, and interactive platforms like Google Docs. I often use online simulations and case studies to bring real-world scenarios into agricultural, environmental, and earth science lessons. In Business English, I focus on context-based learning, emphasizing using shared documents to edit emails, presentations, and reports, providing immediate feedback in a collaborative online setting. I also encourage using educational apps like BBC Learning English and videos to reinforce learning and stimulate engagement. I aim to build knowledge and confidence, ensuring that students understand the material and how to apply it effectively.
Lessons are structured with a focus on real-time interaction, ensuring students remain actively involved through discussions, exercises, and practical application of concepts. Online learning should be as interactive as in-person lessons, so I utilize tools to ensure the classes are informative but also engaging and participatory.
Typical Online Lesson Plan:
Introduction (2-5 mins): Quick overview of the topic using slides, video clips, or shared documents. The introduction connects the lesson to current events or real-world applications, encouraging student participation.
Core Content (20-25 mins): I present the primary material using screen sharing and multimedia resources. I incorporate interactive quizzes, polls, and digital whiteboard activities, allowing students to test their understanding in real-time.
Interactive Activity (15-20 mins): This can include virtual discussions, case study analysis, online simulations, or collaborative exercises like document editing or group problem-solving on a shared platform.
Wrap-Up and Q&A (5-10 mins): The lesson concludes with a summary of key takeaways, further discussion via video/audio, and a space for students to ask questions or clarify doubts. I also give homework or suggested resources to reinforce learning after the lesson.
What Sets Me Apart: My approach stands out because I integrate sustainability and practical environmental applications into all subjects. With a background in sustainable food systems, I use my YouTube channel to discuss different environmental topics, and my Business English students watch my videos to learn new vocabulary that isn't typically seen in their everyday workplace. I focus on how agricultural and environmental science impact society and the planet. My real-world experience allows me to provide students with up-to-date, relevant examples, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Who the Lessons Are For: These lessons are ideal for undergraduate and graduate students in agriculture, environmental science, earth science, and sustainability. They are also perfect for professionals looking to improve their Business English. The context is for every sector, but I have relevant, up-to-date information in the environmental industry. Additionally, my lessons are designed for adult learners and young adults (14-18) seeking academic preparation for university studies, especially in English-speaking countries.
My teaching style is adaptable to each student's needs. I can offer focused one-on-one sessions or group classes based on the learner's specific goals.
