I have been giving lessons online and in person for over 10 years. I want to help you achieve your musical goals, regardless of your experience or age.
Acoustic and electric cellists welcome!
I strive not only to teach students technical skills (such as how to play their instrument, read music, and understand theory) but also to help them learn about themselves and develop their voices both in and out of the musical world. Whether your 9-year-old child wants to play in the symphony when they grow up, or you've just retired at 65 and want to play heavy metal cello, all ages and goals are welcome.
Student Success
Adult students have gone on to participate in worship groups and community orchestras, record albums, play at weddings, compose their music, and even start bands.
Elementary and high school students have made their way to the first chair in the orchestra, gone on to All-County and even All-State orchestras, and raised their NYSSMA rating from Good to Outstanding.
General Materials - Beginners
While it differs for each student, I tend to start beginners out on the Suzuki Books. By Book 3, we will be adding Lee and/or Sevcik Etudes and branching out into even more music.
Looping
Using a loop pedal can be daunting at first, but it's a great way to learn music theory, arranging, soloing, and composition.
Intermediate and Advanced
I like to include etudes, orchestral excerpts, music theory, and even a bit of music history.
Jazz Students
- We're going to start with a foundation of jazz knowledge. Music theory, Improvisation, listening, transcription.

Payment: Payment is due at the beginning of each calendar month.
Lesson Times: Students in 5th through 8th grade generally work best with 30-minute lessons, while high school and adult students prefer 45- and 60-minute lesson periods.
Online Lessons: Lessons taught through Zoom. Desktop or laptop computers with a built-in webcam work just fine. No tablets or phones. Please set it up so I can see your whole self, including both arms and posture, etc. Do not sit directly in front of a window. You should turn some lights in front of you. Bluetooth speakers or headphones also work well if your computer speakers aren't loud enough. It is also best to plug your device directly into the modem rather than using Wi-Fi.
Practice Expectations: Meeting these expectations will ensure students are well-prepared for lessons as
Those who stick to the suggested practice time tend to progress more quickly.
30-minute lessons should practice for 20 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week.
45-minute lessons should practice for 45 minutes a day, 5-6 days a week.
60-minute lessons should practice for 60 minutes a day, 6-7 days a week.
Outside of lessons, the responsibility for practice falls on the student. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their students' practice. You should encourage your children to practice and supervise
them until they get into a routine. Accountability for steady, quality practice lies with both students and their parents. Quality practice is conducted without distractions in a quiet, well-lit, and comfortable area.
