About Emma
I am an undergraduate Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Clark University with a 4.04 GPA. I enjoy and do well in science and mathematic, but they have never come intuitively to me. I also struggled with ADHD and test anxiety, which means I had to develop effective study and learning strategies I can pass on to you. I have always assisted my friends and younger sibling when they have difficulties with school-work, but officially served as a volunteer Peer Tutor in Geometry, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and Statistics. I received an A both semester of Organic Chemistry and so can you!

My teaching style involves two parts, first cultivating an understanding of an individual's learning style, and areas of strength and weakness, and secondly developing strategies for successfully learning, reviewing, and mastering material. I personally learn verbally and have a very hard time learning visually, so in classes like Organic Chemistry, I had to work a lot more with models than peers, and also worked with flashcards and practice problems to get better at visualizing molecules. Everyone has their own unique learning style and my goal is not to tell you what to do, but help foster academic success with tutoring tailored to your individual needs and goals.
There are two mantras I myself was taught by instructors during my academic career. The first was to always do math in pencil and the second was to never erase a thought before it was finished. I think these pieces of advice illustrate the important balance between having confidence in yourself, but also being able to improve and self-correct. I encourage writing down all work systematically, so each step can be reviewed and checked. Additionally, I have accrued practical science knowledge, successful study strategies, and test taking skills I look forward to sharing with students.
