About Kai
About Me Hi, I’m Kai Kishpaugh, a project-based computer programming educator with a passion for helping students bring their ideas to life through code. I studied Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where I combined my technical training with an entrepreneurial mindset. During my time there, I participated in multiple business plan competitions and was awarded over $35,000 in funding and prizes for original software projects. These experiences taught me not only how to develop real applications, but also how to think creatively, pitch ideas, and solve problems—skills I love passing on to my students. For more than 5 years, I’ve taught coding in a wide range of environments: Public schools Private Montessori programs Tutoring franchises One-on-one lessons with students ages 7–18 My approach is project-based and student-driven. Instead of relying on cookie-cutter tutorials, I help learners design and build projects that reflect their interests, whether it’s a video game, a website, or a custom app. Every lesson focuses on practical, hands-on coding and problem-solving skills. Highlights of my experience: Won multiple business plan competitions, totaling over $35,000 in funding for software development Taught hundreds of students in coding classes and private tutoring Developed original curriculum to teach computer science concepts in an accessible, engaging way Helped students create portfolio projects that stand out for college applications and internships Who I Work With: Students ages 7–18, beginners through intermediate Homeschool families seeking a customized coding curriculum Teens preparing for AP Computer Science, programming competitions, or college admissions Young creators excited to build their own software ideas If you’re looking for a coding instructor who combines real-world experience with a supportive, project-focused teaching style, I’d love to help you get started!

Project-Based Coding Lessons with a Computer Science Educator
Teaching Method & Techniques:
I use a project-based approach that empowers students to build real software from the ground up. Rather than following canned tutorials, each lesson centers on creating something original—like a game, website, or app—while learning professional coding skills. I tailor instruction to each student’s interests, pace, and experience level so learning feels engaging and relevant.
Typical Lesson Plan:
First 5–10 minutes: Discuss and define the goal for an added feature or project milestone
Next 50 minutes: Focused instructional learning and guided coding to implement the goal
Final 10 minutes: I prepare and share a written summary outlining what we accomplished, the concepts covered, and next steps
What Sets Me Apart:
I specialize in helping students turn their ideas into working software, building confidence through real-world problem-solving. My background combines software development, entrepreneurship, and over 5 years of teaching experience in schools, tutoring centers, and private lessons. I prioritize clear communication, creativity, and practical skills that prepare students for college, internships, or personal projects.
