About Ryan
I am a current student at the Open University, studying for a maths and physics degree, and work supporting students with SEN in GCSE Maths and Science at a local secondary school.
Prior to this, I have achieved an A* at a level maths and a grade 9 at GCSE maths on no revision whatsoever and achieved the first ever grade 9 in science at my school. I also did AS further maths where I had to teach myself and achieved the top grade. When it comes to my mathematical knowledge, I know most of the back doors and find joy in doing all forms of maths.
The reason why I love to teach maths is that I know not everyone sees the full joy and beauty of it. Most people see a question and tremble, so my mission is to show them it's not that scary and anyone can do maths once they know how!

The most important element to my teaching style is my outlandish and fun explanations of different concepts as this helps my students to remember what I've taught them. I also try to take a personal approach by using my knowledge of my student and their interests to make the content relevant to them.
When it comes to marking, I'm knowm to have a ruthless style and tell the student the errors they made, explaining to them if I can find it, so can an examiner. To tackle these errors, I have them teach me and question them why they are doing it that way with the intention of them realising it themselves.
Everytime I do a worked example for my students, I like to show them where the marks are allocated based on errors raised in examiner reports or common mistakes. They then know how to get full marks consistently!
