About Daniel
I am a Grade 8 pianist and am currently studying a Masters in Musical Direction at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Although my Masters is in Musical Direction for Theatre, playing piano is an essential requirement for this course. My skills in terms of piano playing lie within the Classical realm, through my ABRSM grades, and in Musical Theatre.
I am also a Grade 8 clarinetist and studied my degree at Leeds College of Music in Classical Clarinet. My clarinet ability is therefore of an exceptionally high standard. I have a knowledge of standard clarinet rep as well as more contemporary composers and music. I am also an orchestral musician and so am able to offer advice at working within this particular role.
I also have Grade 6 Theory, although my knowledge is much greater than this, and so can easily teach theory up to Grade 5 standard.
As I am studying a Masters in Musical Direction for Musical Theatre, I can also offer vocal coaching lessons as well as record backing tracks for actors. I can offer advice on acting choices and acting through song, rep choices, as well as stylistic and musical choices.
Through my work as a Musical Director, I have developed clear communication skills, as well as being able to teach music effectively and clearly. I can very easily tailor my language towards the level of the student, to make sure the communication is clear and try to implant different ways of learning (such as a auditory, visual and kinaesthetic means) into my lessons, depending on what works best for the pupil. The lessons are always about tailoring everything towards the pupil.

Vocal Coaching for Musical Theatre
All lessons with a new student will begin by discussing: what the student hopes to achieve with lessons, what genre(s) of music they like, what music they want to play, any experience they already have. This allows me to get a clear idea of how I will tailor my teaching methods, in a way most appropriate, for the pupil.
I always aim to instil confidence in my pupils, making sure they are self-assured in their ability to perform as well as their own theoretical knowledge and understanding of music. I also put an emphasis on teaching the student how to practice and manage self-learning away from our lessons. So much of my musical learning happened away from the teaching environment, because I was inspired and passionate to learn more, in order to show my teachers what I had discovered. Inspiring pupils is certainly one of my main aims and something that makes me excited as a teacher.
*I am more than capable of teaching up to Grade 8 standard, however, due to Covid-19, all lessons are online and I don't believe I would effectively be able to teach these higher grades to the standard needed for pupils at this level, through online lessons.*
