About Rowan

I am a piano tutor with 8 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Piano Studies. My background in classical training is paired with a deep interest in how music supports personal well-being. Over the years, I have developed an approach that blends traditional piano study with mindfulness and relaxation techniques. I believe music should bring clarity and calm, not tension. That’s why I guide students in gentle posture awareness, relaxed hand positions, and breathing practices that reduce stress at the keys. These methods not only improve sound quality but also help learners feel grounded during practice and performance. Stage anxiety is a challenge many students face, and I provide tools to manage it with focus and ease. Together, we work on steady breathing, visualization, and calm preparation to transform nerves into confident expression. My teaching style is centered on gentle encouragement, creating a safe space where progress feels steady and rewarding. I have a special interest in supporting adult learners, especially those seeking wellness and balance through music. For them, lessons become both an artistic and restorative practice. By slowing down and listening deeply, students often discover new levels of connection with the instrument and themselves. My goal is to help every learner enjoy piano as both a musical journey and a mindful practice. I warmly invite you to slow down, breathe, and make music mindfully.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is built on helping learners create musical fluency from the very first lesson. I believe students should feel like they are making music, not just practicing exercises. That’s why I introduce patterns, simple songs, and rhythm training early on so confidence grows quickly.

Finger independence is a core part of my lessons, with creative drills that strengthen the hands without stiffness. Reading fluency is also a focus, as I want students to understand the page with ease and translate it smoothly into sound. I guide learners to hear, see, and play in real time so music feels natural rather than forced.

I include real-time rhythm training to help students stay steady, listen deeply, and develop strong inner timing. Duet playing is another key part of my approach, since it builds coordination, musical awareness, and the joy of shared music-making.

For those who enjoy modern styles, I support playing by ear, chord progressions, and expressive accompaniment. For those who play in ensembles, I help refine rhythm support, harmonies, and fluid transitions. My lessons always adapt to the student’s goals while staying rooted in strong technique.

Every session is designed to be clear, encouraging, and engaging. I balance structure with creativity so that students feel guided yet free to explore. Above all, I want learners to see the piano not as a challenge but as a lifelong companion for expression and joy.
