I use the talk through, walk through method of teaching. I always bring yarn and needles for my student and have a set for myself. I start by explaining the first concept (I break everything down into small chunks) in words. Then I demonstrate the concept slowly. Then I direct the student to perform the first concept. I will do motions with my own yarn at the same time, so the student can look over if they have forgotten how to do it. I am very patient and understand that every person learns differently. I know how to read patterns and can also make up my own designs, so I can give students tips on each. I love knitting and I want to pass on that enthusiasm to my students!
I am a masters student studying to be a chemistry teacher. I started knitting in 2012. I knit and sew in my free time as well as run an Etsy shop. I have taught knitting lessons at an after-school program for ages 8-13, and I have also taught many of my friends how to knit. Teaching is my passion, and crafting is my joy!
