Expert Math coaching in Exter NH -- former college professor and Navy Nuke Power instructor

Methodology

I bring the concepts to the level of the student. I begin by not assuming any knowledge by the student of the subject area and try to instill the knowledge by appealing to the student's intuition. I like to go through a lot of examples and motivate the student to be able to tackle any math problem related to the appropriate topic on their own. I believe in increasing confidence by going step-by-step over many examples.

Background

Taught math to future submariners at Navy Nuke Power school in Orlando.
PhD in Mathematics from University of Florida in Gainesville.
Former visiting Professor at University of South Carolina.
Used mathematics and statistics on a daily basis modeling clinical trial outcomes in the Pharma industry.
Have been teaching, tutoring, and mentoring for more than 25 years.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
 Extensive hands-on experience in diverse aspects of drug development, including conducting and analyzing clinical trials (Phases, I, II, and III) and doing statistical analyses for pharmaceutical companies.
 Have provided statistical planning and analysis for both standard and adaptive clinical trial designs. Have been a leader in the quality control of pharmaceutical data. Communicated with the FDA during the application and conclusion stages of clinical trials and during all stages of adaptive design type clinical trials.
 Supervising statistical programmers and junior biostatisticians to consistently exceed targets and deadlines.
 Developed production-level software to analyze large amounts of data in C++, Perl, Python, and SAS to automate and expedite MCMC algorithms (e.g., Gibbs sampler), and other Bayesian methodology, Applications include NLP/text recognition, computer vision and other machine learning algorithms. Familiar/experienced with the BUGS (Bayesian inference Using Gibbs Sampling) package, including OpenBUGS and JAGS (i.e., R or Splus).
 Over 18 years of experience as a statistician in academia and in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and insurance industries. Proven track record of motivating statistical programmers and junior biostatisticians to consistently exceed targets and deadlines. Experience with dealing with large and complicated data sets with a multitude of statistical and computational techniques. Extensive experience in multiple clinical areas, including oncology, nutrition, genetics, psychiatry, and autism. Have excellent communication and writing skills used to communicate with FDA representatives and effectively present findings to stockholders/laymen in various industries.

Independent Machine Learning/Statistical Learning Consultant, USA (March 2010- September 2010)
Modeling retail sales data by:
• Analyzing retail sales data and formulating a predictive model to estimate the relative frequencies of size and style for a collection of clothing items
• Using a complicated Poisson model that took into account right-censored data (where store ran out of inventory at end of the week), used Gibbs Sampling to arrive at the estimates of the relative frequencies and their 95% credibility intervals
• Verified Gibbs Sampling results theoretically and empirically

Exponentially increased processing and automation of huge text data sets by:
• Launching Gibbs sampler software in C++ to find posterior distributions for the prediction of financial data using stochastic time series models
• Developing software to implement LSA and LDA analysis of text processing
• Writing C++ software for machine learning of simultaneous linear classifiers (transfer learning) using projected sub gradient algorithm and examining different types of projections to improve speed of this algorithm. This provided the pipeline with full AI capabilities
• Developing software to calculate maximum likelihood underlying signal in Hidden Markov Models for Viterbi sequencing
