About Anna

Hi there! I'm Anna, a 25-year-old cartographer originally from Kyiv, Ukraine. I'm excited to connect with you and share a bit about myself.
As you can probably tell from my accent, I'm a native Ukrainian speaker. I moved to beautiful British Columbia, Canada in 2023, so I'm also fluent in English. One of my passions is helping others improve their language skills, whether it's practicing Ukrainian or polishing their English.
When I'm not creating maps, you can often find me lacing up my running shoes. I love staying active and run 5km three times a week. It's a great way to explore my new home and keep fit!
I'm a bit of a history buff, especially when it comes to Ukrainian and world history. I find that understanding our past helps us make sense of the present and shape our future.
In our lessons, you can expect a friendly, energetic atmosphere. I believe in making learning fun and relevant to your interests. Whether you're looking to improve your language skills, dive into historical topics, or just have engaging conversations, I'm here to help!
I'm looking forward to meeting you and embarking on this learning journey together. Let's explore languages, history, and culture in a way that's tailored just for you. See you soon!

3. Motivational Approach:I inspire curiosity, making even difficult topics engaging and exciting.
4. Persistence and Dedication: I don’t give up on my students, providing consistent support and motivation when they feel stuck.
5. High Standards with Patience: I set high expectations but guide students with understanding, helping them grow without feeling overwhelmed.
6. Personalized Guidance: I tailor my teaching to meet the unique needs of every student, adjusting my methods as needed.
7. Building Self-Reliance: My ultimate goal is to empower students to become independent learners, equipped with the skills to succeed beyond my lessons.
In essence, I aim to be more than just a teacher—a mentor, motivator, and guiding light for my students, creating the ideal environment for them to thrive.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

I have always been passionate about art-first painting, then graphic design, 2D illustration, and later 3D modeling. At the right moment, I unexpectedly discovered cartography. I was particularly fascinated by historical cartography-medieval maps are true works of art that also connect to science. Later, I learned that cartography also integrates with 3D modeling, making it even more captivating for me.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

I love that I can explore the world from behind a computer screen and examine even the most remote places on Earth. Cartography and GIS never get boring because each task involves working with different data and solving unique challenges. Additionally, this field is constantly evolving-new technologies emerge daily, offering endless opportunities to learn.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

My students motivate me to learn more, research new information, and stay updated with the latest trends in GIS. Every lesson is a new challenge because every student is different-some are beginners, while others already work in the field and want to deepen their knowledge. I enjoy finding the right approach for each student and explaining complex concepts in a simple way.
I especially love when a student comes with a real-world task or problem to solve. For example, one student needed to prepare a spatial analysis for an environmental project, and together we developed a methodology for his research. These moments make teaching exciting and meaningful for me.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my geography teacher and my history teacher in school. They didn't just teach the material-they made it engaging, adding practical exercises, funny stories, and interactive elements. Thanks to them, I realized that knowledge is not just about textbooks but about discovery, exploration, and curiosity.
I am also inspired by modern GIS professionals, particularly John Nelson-a cartographer and designer at Esri, who blends art and technology to create visually stunning maps. His approach to cartography proves that maps are not just analytical tools, but also powerful storytelling mediums. His work has deepened my appreciation for the visual side of cartography and encouraged me to experiment with creative mapping techniques.
  • What are your keys to success?

Student-centered approach: Every student is unique, and it's important to tailor the learning process to their needs and learning style. Understanding their strengths and challenges helps create an effective and engaging learning experience.

Hands-on practice: It's better to do something once than to read about it ten times. I always incorporate real-world case studies and practical exercises into my lessons to reinforce learning.

Flexibility: Every student progresses at their own pace, so I adapt my teaching methods based on the complexity of the material and the student's level of understanding.

Continuous learning: Technology evolves rapidly, and GIS is a constantly developing field. That's why I stay updated with the latest tools, trends, and teaching techniques to provide students with relevant and practical knowledge.
