About Kate
I am a passionate writer, captivated with cinema and storytelling, with 10 years of development experience as a freelance screenwriter in Los Angeles. My aim is to demystify the writing process, to equip students with the tools they need to understand story structure and to find their inner voice. Two key elements I have found are lacking in the academic field. Once there is a grasp of this the student can focus on storytelling, an innate ability we all have. My lessons can also be tailored for students who are neurodivergent. As someone with ADHD, I understand how difficult it can be to focus, overcoming distractions is a skill set in itself, with this in mind I have developed my own hacks for brainstorming, for maintaining concentration, for achieving a state of flow.

I recently graduated with an MA in Script Writing at Goldsmiths with distinction. During my year studying I began mentoring classmates in peer-to-peer sessions. During these sessions I realised how rewarding it is to inspire, impart skills, foster critical thinking, and encourage creative expression. From 2014-2015 I was a volunteer reader and mentor at BookPALS, a literacy programme in Los Angeles, CA. This experience imbued in me the importance of showing understanding and providing a safe environment when fostering imagination and creativity. Writing is quite often baring your soul, it requires being vulnerable, so it’s crucial to have an empathic and experienced guide. I’ll guide you through every step of the process. Beginning with the most crucial stage, the preparation. From brainstorming ideas, identifying themes, crafting characters, plotting/outlining and then on to writing the first draft. All the way to the feeling of satisfaction that comes from typing “the end”. Lessons can be tailored to fit your unique needs. Focusing on features, shorts, feature film, TV, or radio plays. If you have something in the works, I am able to provide notes.
