With an international certificate of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, I have taught credit courses of 100-, 200-, and 300-level Mandarin to university students and tutored elementary school kids. I design classes according to students' needs and learning styles. I motivate students to learn through effective pedagogy and use project-based teaching and learning methods to help each student succeed.
I have a PhD in linguistics and a PhD in education. I have taught English in China for 10+ years and Chinese to university students for 3 years. I am an expert in learning assessment and a researcher focusing on teacher education and professional development.

I took a 6 week Mandarin class with Kerong and it was my first introduction to Mandarin. I think for a beginner class, she approached it very well, recognizing limitations on our understanding and coaching us in a helpful, constructive way. Kerong also made class really fun and lighthearted which I appreciated. She repeated certain elements from class to class which helped us build our competency on those elements so that we could see ourselves getting better while also introducing new content. I really enjoyed her class!
I knew Kerong since 2014. She is a very responsible teacher, who has great passion for education field. She is also very patient with students who have learning difficulties.
I have known Kerong since our time working in the Chinese Department at Indiana University in Indianapolis. She was an excellent colleague and teacher who regularly taught Mandarin Chinese to a diverse group of students both in and out of the classroom. She helped lead a successful study abroad program to China and held fascinating Chinese cultural lectures. She is very reliable, knowledgable, fun, and takes her work seriously.
