About Kate
Hello! My name is Kate and I am an artist/designer with 10 years of experience as a professional artist and educator. I've taught painting, drawing, printmaking, 2D design, and even some art history classes. I love helping to expand a student's artmaking possibilities -- trust me, this is a skill that can be learned and practiced.
Throughout my career as an artist and educator, I have helped assist countless students and professionals bring their projects to fruition.
I’ve worn many hats: UX designer, professor, program director, coordinator, press assistant, and studio technician. My current role is as the first UX Designer -- I love working on these meaty, tough problems with collaborators who have skillsets and perspectives different from my own. My experience as an educator helps me make the most of jobs like this, and I love a challenge!
I have a B.F.A. in Printmaking from Northwest Missouri State University and an M.F.A. in Visual Art from Arizona State University. In my former career, I was an academic and spent most of my time at the as an instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute and as an Assistant Professor of Art and the Art Program Director at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas. My artworks are included in various public and private collections, including the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library.
When I'm not swimming in a sea of pixels, I love to cycle, garden, and of course spend time in my studio making art.

I cater my lessons to the student's needs and desires. We will discuss your goals and create a plan from there. I have a very hands-on teaching style and will always incorporate project-based work with multiple iterations as a way to help students learn the creative process.
For in-person lessons, we can meet at my studio in the West Bottoms!
